allocation requests by region is determined by a set criteria

    1. is the dealer an exclusive Toyota dealer
    2. what is the dealer volume sales overall
    3. what is the dealer volume sales of a model

those above will determine who gets what

if you are NOT an exclusive dealer (you fall behind dealers that only sell Toyota), my dealer sells dodge and Toyota so his allocation requests take longer to fulfill were as the dealer about 105 miles away is an exclusive dealer and get new vehicles 1-2 months quicker.

small volume dealers run about 100 vehicles a month across all models, high volume dealers run 25-50 on a single model.

Will 2018 be a short model year? It’ll be January before the lots are full with 2018 models , six more months and we will all be talking about 2019 order info. Heck I ordered my 2017 in May 2016.

remember that there are about 11 regional ports for Toyota, in one region they can put in allocation requests while the region next door cannot. its all regulated by each respective regional port.

just remember southeast region is actually SE Toyota and gulf states is Gulf States Toyota, which are independent of Toyota USA rules.

Question: I asked the dealer to adjust my color request from Inferno to Metallic Black about 3 weeks ago and they said they submitted the request a day or two after I asked. They said that it was entered, but the truck is still showing as an Inferno build. They have a VIN# and Build date of 11/17.

Is it likely that Toyota is going to take this color change? Do I need to be more firm with the dealer on the color change request? Is there someone they can call?

I wanted to like the Inferno color, but after driving one down the road, I felt....odd driving an orange pickup truck.

Learn to love that Orange, it will treat you well.

Personally, I love the Inferno, but it is also not an unusual color here in Broncos Country (Denver).

go back and talk to the manager and verify that the regional port accepted the allocation change request. the regional port will either accept or deny it. the regional port determines what a dealer gets or doesn't get and what time they will get an allocation. Toyota usa doesn't have anything to do with your request.

dealer <--> regional port <--> Toyota usa

the above is how communications is done when dealing with allocations.

I'm just not digging that chain link grill on the '18s. How hard would it be to put the '16/'17 cheese grater grill in its place with all the TSS stuff? Is it possible?

I think it looks better, but I'll still probably replace mine with a TRD Pro grill as I did on my 2016. We'll see. It is a guess, but I doubt a 16/17 grill will work (assuming the TSS-P is not attached to the grill itself....if it is, then obviously not). The redesign is probably more to do with TSS-P, versus any cosmetic changes. Again, just a guess, but given that they left the rest of the truck as is, I am sure Toyota would have left the grill the same too, if not for TSS-P.

The cheese grater is now a classic. I’m glad they discontinued it, as it makes it more special. In 20 years they’ll be offering it as a “heritage grille” on the 2038 Tacos.

Sounds like you're stuck with orange.

No thanks. I'm done with bright colors for...... uh, ever. I guess I shouldn't say forever, but a bright red civic si in the garage for almost a decade will make you want to see gray for a while.
