Where I live a 2017 Tacoma would look like that after its first winter. Rust sucks, but I have to live with it.

    yep..
That frame doesn't look bad for a salted truck. Mines about the same. Nothing structural. I just scraped the loose stuff off and fluid filmed everything. If you're going to do any painting. Use rustoleum oil based primer and then oil based black. The oil based primer really soaks into the pores, more so that rattle can paint. Then fluid film over that.

I'd see if they can do the new leaf TSB, then at least all that is brand new.

I have a 2013 in the Midwest that is starting to rust.

I think if you want a truck whos frane won't rust, buy something other than a Toyota.

Need pictures of the frame by the front drivers side catalytic converter, the body mounts, and the frame back by the tail pipe. If it's rusting through that's where it will be.

I think what is being overlooked by some of the references here is where is it going to live? Are you in Arizona or Alaska? Where you are going to use it will play a part in the decision. The rust has not engulfed the truck yet.

I would consider it a safe amount of rust if you're going to be in west TX, AZ, NV, CA, OR, UT, or CO and want to keep it for 10+ years and are getting it for a below local market price.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

The truck would reside in Idaho. And the market price difference for the same rig is astounding from the NW to the NE. Way below market price.

Bought, shipped and after tax I could still flip for good profit as-is, but I'm still on the fence about it.

I just fluid film sprayed my truck today; Bought the Kellsport Pro fluid film gun for 80 bucks with the nozzle extension and 360 spray extension, a gallon of fluid film and got it all done today. This stuff is amazing and gives me a nice sign of relief as I won't have to worry too much about rusting out. I only used about 1 and 1/2 quart; it covered my entire truck underbody and inside the frame. Pop the drain plugs out of the quarter panels and spray inside there too. Spray into the pinch welds along the rocker panels too so it soaks real good in there.

This 2011 undercarriage is not bad at all; that's just mainly surface rust, nothing to really worry about. Wire brush and a good weekend would take care of majority of that rust. I would prime it with some rust primer then epoxy paint it then let it dry and undercoat it with fluid film.

I'm in New York and that looks like a 2 year old truck around here. For the Northeast that's like new.

That's what I'm thinking. Thanks for the product info and process - will note that down for future reference.
