    I have the 2nd gen bumps on my first gen. They have maybe 1/4” clearance at ride height and sit closer to a 45 degree angle because of how tall they are.

    But I have yet to wheel with them yet so no idea on how well they work. But anything is better than the 16 YO hockey pucks that were on there before.

    FYI you will need to run a 3/8-16 tap through the factory hole to bolt on.

    Edit: Found a metric stud version that even a little shorter that might work better.

    That was the point I was making. I know some people have tried the superbumps on 1st gens in spite of what Wheelers writes about what will and wont fit.

    This is a whole other set of questions that have nothing to do with what I asked.

    No clue. Maybe you should buy a set and try them out and report back. :p

    Aren't those a fairly high durometer? As Ben suggested, I think these new timbrens will be very soft, similar to the superbumps in that regard.

    If I want hard/firm bumps up front, I might as well keep my stock pucks.

    You will have to take the spring and rod end off to install. And keep up and cleaning them. Even the best shock shafts will corrode if mud/salt/ road grime is left between the bump stop and shaft. Seen it a few times on raptor shocks.

    Those are interesting. If only I had a Branick spring compressor like you it might be worth trying.

    Yeah, I figured, but it was worth posting about. It certainly elicited a few interesting responses tho.

    I think the metal cups are a timbren thing. I think it is a mechanism that restricts how far the bump will expand outward. It may help to extend its lifespan. The timbren rears I have also have a similar design, shallow cup.

    Now you are talking frankenstien. I doubt hydro bumps will ever be on most 'normal' Tacomas.

    Besides, aren't they kind of expensive?

    I've had them for a while on my first gen and love them. Had them when I was stock and kept them when I switched to LT.

    Really helped with the the weight from the bumper, winch, batteries. Could definitely take bigger hits, less maintenance/noise then hydros.

    May not give you as much up travel however.

    Nearly Tundra brake'd today.

    Actually, everything's installed except for one @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc front brake line, which was defective (couldn't move the middle support bracket on the line to the necessary position). Called up Steve and he's sending out a new one. Hopefully it gets here tomorrow. Or Friday at the latest. 'cause man, I don't want to have the truck just sitting out there all weekend... (c'mon Steve! :))

    Astros game is on, managed some work on the truck. Alignment is off, might need to go to a body shop. Doesn't seem squared upfront.

    If your '98 headlight housings are the same as my '02 housings, there will be a single adjuster for aiming up and down only. My adjuster takes a 4mm socket (might be 5mm, can't remember for sure). The adjuster is located on the back side of the housing near the lower outside corner.

    An 1/8 inch roll pin will shear before a good tack weld allow shaft to telescope.
