You can own both doncha know...I'll keep the Taco...and the van will be in addition to it like this guy with his Merc and 4Runner. Be nice to get a little uber-rally car too for scooting around, but I'll get my license revoked if I bought one of those. ;)

Just kinda tired of the lack of hauling abilities of my Tacoma, have been driving Toyota trucks for 26 years...when I first got one, everyone made fun of me...but I held my ground, defended them, and had been a loyal fan boi...but now all these years later, they have become quite popular...I dunno, every reincarnation they dumb it down a little further for the mass populous...have watched the payloads go down, and the bloat and machismo go up over the years. They used to be this unassuming little utility vehicle, but now the current Tacoma culture has turned me off from wanting a new one. Time to head to the van forums/blogs. :D Not to worry, I won't let the door hit me in the ass...

No more 5mt? May as well just discontinue the 2.7 now instead of the next year or two.

I knew the day was coming, but didn't think it was going to be this soon.

Isn’t there a huge list of problems with the 3rd gen Tacomas on here? Seems like Toyota doesn’t build them like the used to.

There was a run of 1st gens DC’s with bad axle seals. No matter what you buy there are going to be gremlins. My Tacoma has been great, has it been perfect...no.

If Toyota would offer the HiAce here I would buy that, but they don't. 3 choices are Transit, Sprinter, or the Ram/Fiat...so make that only 2 choices, Ferd and the Merc.

As far as tech, I'm holding out now until fully self driving vehicles are available and proven. I'd be pissed if I bought one of these what are becoming semi self driving cars then a couple years later a fully autonomous one comes out. I'm thinking 10-15 years before we see it, but it is coming for sure.

    Power windows man, power windows....

    ...and well everything else.

Remember the arm work out you would get driving a non-power steering truck?

You need crank windows for upper body balance with a manual transmission. With power windows you end up looking like a right handed arm wrestler.

I don't know what happened to my previous comment, but studies have shown it's not the distractions causing the spike of deaths, but the same old factors: Seat belts, speed, and alcohol. And by "distractions," I mean phones, not that people are playing with navigations or changing radio stations. So again, not sure your claim connects to tech advancements in cars. I'm not sure if TSS would help in this regard, but can't hurt.

My reasoning is that having nanny systems that do things the driver should be doing himself (e.g. reasonable speed, giving space, watching blind spots, etc) allows the driver to become inattentive. I think one example is ABS. People assume that anti-lock gives them a blank check to travel like idiots in the snow because the car will magically be able to defy physics.

I prefer to pump the brakes myself, which I admit isn't as good at pulsing as ABS but does give me the option to lock them, which is sometimes what you want to do even with subpar surfaces. I pull the ABS fuse as SOP now on trails after it once thought a gravel shelf road was an appropriate place to activate.

If you can provide any credible studies that show "nannies" like radar CC, Blindeside monitor, etc. cause fatalities, please post it. I haven't come across any.
