    Hi everyone-
My '17 TRD Sport DB 6M is scheduled to be built next week, and I'm looking for some recommendations for a few aftermarket accessories that will be needed soon after the truck arrives.

First, I'm going to want seat covers. For the back seat for sure, to keep the dog from tearing the hell out of the seats, but perhaps for the front as well. I've seen Carhardt and CalTrend rated highly, but are there any others I should consider? As I mentioned, I'm more concerned about the back seats due to the dog. He'll be in a travel crate while driving, but the climbing in and out could tear up seats eventually. Plus, I figure seat covers will be easier to clean if he tracks in mud and such. Which I know he will.

Second, the wife has said I will need nerf bars to make it easier for her to get in and out. The factory steps seem over-priced to me, and I'm thinking about Westin Pro Traxx 4". Anyone have praise or complaints about those? Or other suggestions? I definitely want round bars, and black versus chrome.

Third, any feedback about the URD short-throw shifter kits for 2016+ Tacomas? They seem reasonably priced, and since I'm coming from a small almost-sports car to a truck, the shift throws in the Tacoma seem way long to me. Anything that shortens them up a bit seems like it would be a nice mod.

Some other, longer term upgrades and what-not that I may add are an LED lightbar in the hood scoop (saw the video another user had posted and am mighty impressed!), maybe replacing the stock grill with one that's all black that has a LED light bar in it, adding a bed header rail (seems like a cheap, quick, no-brainer add-on?), maybe some LED replacement bulbs for stock incandescents, maybe a cold air kit like those from K&N, a dashcam wired in to the ignition, and maybe some engine software tweaks.

Are there other useful accessories that maybe I'm not thinking of? I have mixed feelings about tonneau covers, but I figure that's easy enough to add later if I decide to go that route. The truck isn't going to be much off-roading (I live in IL, so not much true offroading to be had in these parts anyway).

I have to admit, I'm pretty psyched about getting the truck. I've been eyeing Tacomas for a number of years, but am finally in the position to get one. And the dealer I'm going through offered a very competitive price, which made the decision all the easier. The wife hates that I'm staying with a manual, but I hate driving automatics, and since she has her own SUV and I'm paying for the Taco, I'm getting what I want to drive. :)

Montana Headwaters makes some of best seat covers around. Have had 3 sets. Waiting on my 4th set for the Taco now. They are a great company to deal with and make quality stuff.

Very happy with my Extang Emax tonneau cover. Great design for a soft cover which folds and all the way up to cab leaving bed open if needed.
Much better than the snaps or velcro having to roll it up

    1. Wet Okoles for covers... im pretty sure there is a GB going on rn too: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wet-okole-group-buy.515680/#post-16279311

    2. Most folks would say skip the nerf bars and just get proper sliders. Ones with fill plates to make it a step as well if you choose, but my GF can step up on my BAMF sliders no problem.

    3. Im auto, so nothing here from me.

Grills, lightbars, and all the needed switches/wiring are awesome upgrades. Look in the Group Buy area for deals on the lights and stuff on the regular.

I would add weathertech floor liners to your list. Also a rubber bed mat. Both of these have been invaluable for me.

Also, congrats and welcome to TW. Your wallet may be effected in the long run but for the betterment of your truck!

Do their covers allow the front seat side airbags to work? It's not clear on their website, and I don't want to put covers on that would block those airbags form working.

I'm not sure I'd like neoprene seat covers. The group buy is pretty awesome, though. I got a great deal on the factory all-weather floor mats, so went with those. WeatherTech would have been more expensive, even with being able to drive down to their factory to pick up.

Gadget at URD has been really helpful for me and my first gen and my FJ cruiser and even gave me a Veterans discount! Suspension wise Ive had great luck with ICON and Total Chaos. Relentless has great designs and quality. They can be slow or back ordered but they are worth the wait.

i can say the URD SS kit is great. the install isn't as easy as the 2nd gen, you may have to trim a bit to get your fingers in, my installer did and there are reports of that, but beside that little thing it's perfect, seriously perfect. would buy again for sure.

Yes they do. If something happens, you take the covers off and they will fix or replace them free of charge. My favorite reason for dealing with them is they are military friendly, employ a lot of vets, and when you place your order online, the guy that OWNS the company calls you to go over your order before they start building your covers. I personally don't give 2 shits what other kind of deals other companies may give, I will never buy covers from anywhere else. Just my 2 cents.
