What Matt said was that if you have 04B02, and you have not loaded any any prior tunes, you need to load both.

So different ECU versions change how many times you need to flash?

I asked this a while back because it’s really confusing. Most people said you need two flashes.

Maybe autos need two and manuals need one?

I am ECU version 04B02. When I received my tune 1.02C-x files on October 8th (the first tune I ever loaded) Matt also sent me file "1.02BB" along with the following cryptic note:

here is the TCU update for your
(this flashes to Gearbox P5 can) and is the main TCU update

In a seperate email moments apart Matt sent me the six 1.02C-x files. Cryptic note follows:

    this is 1.02C A / B / C shifting + 87 octane tunes to match.
This goes to the ECU, not TCU. so make sure the flash template is NOT on "gearbox'

let me know if you need additional help

I also saw in post 7205 by Matt to flash the 1.02BB file FIRST, if you had 04B02 originally and had not loaded any tune before. THEN flash whichever 1.02C-x file you like.

The below is directly quoted from Matt's post (number 7205):

Anyone who received the email with the 1.02C update file for their vehicle needs only to select and flash one of the files to the ECM. No TCU update necessary.
for anyone who has never updated on 04B02, you will use the TCU 1.02BB which I've sent
For people with 04B03, no need to worry about anything "TCU" related

    YES.... IT IS ALL CONFUSING!!!

I have a question on the hardware aspect. I would like to do the tune myself instead of the bench flash, but I don't have a pc laptop. I have a desktop PC and was wondering if anyone has any experience running a USB extension cable to make this work? Maybe like a 25-50 foot extension?

You would need a USB cable with repeater to run that kind of length. You can go about 15' max before needing a repeater. Given that you're flashing the ECU, I would not want to run anything with a repeater on it as you increase the chance of the file being altered by the repeater.

    Stock for now
Ok i'm new here this is my first post and I looked and searched for the tuner if there was one available and I cam across this thread so I'm interested to do this to my 17 tacoma for more gains or at least a better throttle response, transmission shifting etc, how and where or who do I contact to get the programmer or re-flash to get this done?? I had tried to read all 400+ pages but I gave up on that, can someone provide that info?? thanks

By the way this is my first tacoma or toyota product I've ever had

    you're close ;)

    OVtuned.com is the website
there are other threads you can search for that provide details around Manual and Auto transmission vehicles as they are separate tunes. My guess is since you're calling out the tranny shifting you are probably looking for the Auto.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ovtune-tacoma-3-5l-auto-transmission-engine-ecu-reflash.515190/

right now tuning kits are out of stock, but they should be back in stock within the next few weeks. alternatively you can send in your ECU (and your truck be undriveable for a few days) for him to bench flash it and send back. I'd recommend waiting until he has tune kits back in stock. The process to-date to authenticate keys and get the kits set up has been time consuming so he's working on optimizing this process before restocking the kits, but demand is high - the product is OUTSTANDING, so hang in there and read up. Makes this truck come alive and drive like butter... seriously

several of us early adopters were excited enough about the possibility of the tune that we dug our heels in and showed Mat it's worth it. @bshammer0 is one of early guys. so, no, we pay the money like everyone else and just fucking love a properly tuned motor and the drive that comes with it.

Help please, I have the kit and Mat wrote me to say my software version is 04B01 and needs to be upgraded to do the tuning. He said this is a free 15-min upgrade from my dealer. I called my dealer and they gave me a hard time, saying the software is with the truck for life, unless there is a specific issue they are trying to fix. I didn't want to say I wanted the software upgrade so I can do a 3rd party tune on the truck.

What reasons can I tell them I am having so they will just upgrade the software? Thanks!
