Also keep in mind that a dragster has high traction tires that are directly driven by the engine at launch.

The jet/rocket powered cars are basically coasting along with their engines pushing against just the air.

    Notes on dragsters:

Dragsters reach over 300 MPH before you have completed reading this sentence.

Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.

With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.

Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.

6 Gs of force at the starting line (nothing accelerates faster on land)

An NHRA Top Fuel Dragster accelerates quicker than any other land vehicle on earth . . quicker than a jet fighter plane . . . quicker than the space shuttle.

For illustrative purposes. This is a fuel pump demo showing the fuel dumped into ONE of EIGHT cylinders.

I passed by this accident yesterday morning at around 6:30 am. His body was still in the roadway. From the Hospital he left from to the spot he was hit is 6 miles (ish). Who checks themselves out of a hospital at 1 in the morning and then walks home? He still had 11 miles to go until he got to the Clinton County line.

    Oct 26, 2017

A 50-year-old Clinton County man was killed instantly early Wednesday morning when he was struck by two vehicles in the southbound lanes of Route 220, just east of the Woodward Township firehouse, state police said.

Robert L. Brunner, of Lock Haven, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county’s Chief Deputy Coroner Jerold Ross following the 4:45 a.m. accident.

Brunner was the fourth pedestrian to be killed on this stretch of the four-lane highway in little more than a year.

Trooper Ernest Capobianco said Brunner “was standing/walking on the roadway” when he was first struck by a southbound 2006 Subaru Forester driven by Janice Mitcheltree, of Trout Run, and then hit by a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by Stacia L. Stutzman, of Ralston.

Neither driver was injured, Capobianco said.

The southbound lanes were immediately closed at Reach Road and motorists were detoured by fire police and by state Department of Transportation employees onto Arch Street and Route 654, where drivers could re-connect onto Route 220 via Route 44.

Investigators said Brunner was last seen walking out of the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center after discharging himself about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

“He was carrying a hospital bag and he had a hospital bracelet on his wrist,” said County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr., who also responded to the crash.

Anyone who has any information about seeing Brunner in the road before the crash is asked to call police at 570-368-5700.

Earlier this year, on the night of March 1, Dennis Lee Burley was walking across the southbound lanes of Route 220, where West Fourth Street merges with the highway, when he was struck and killed by a hit-run driver, state police said.

Like Brunner, Burley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Burley, 54, of Muncy, was struck by a 2001 Saturn allegedly driven by Daniel Eugene Mitchell, 31, of 78 Rock Run Road, Cogan Station, about 11:30 p.m.

After learning from media reports that a man had died in the crash, Mitchell surrendered to the state police barracks in Selinsgrove on March 3.

Mitchell, who is free on bail, is awaiting trial on charges in connection with the crash.

On the afternoon of Sept. 12, 2016, two men from Pakistan living in Williamsport were killed when they were struck by a car as they were changing a flat tire on their disabled vehicle on the berm of the northbound lanes near the Woodward Township Building.

Well when you consider that we park in the driveway and drive on the parkway, it all starts to make sense.

Until I spent time in Maine, I never realized how good a spot the front yard was for a retired fishing boat!

That's not retired; its in almost perfect condition. That boat will be back in the water once lobster season starts again.

    THIS boat is retired. Probably:
