Just did the mod and love it works great

Got the switch on Amazon for $25 and the cover at the dealer for $5. Combined $30 and it's perfect. Another win for Tacoma World

Hey, guys. Just got a 2017 sr, and I'm wanting to do this and the wiper mod. I was wondering if there are other Toyotas that have a similar interior that I could yank the parts out of? If so, what years? I've searched nearby pull your own parts shops, and no one has any tacomas. Thanks in advance!

I have seen several people say that they have not seen a 2017 that was not prewired, but it is easy enough to check.
If you take the air bag off the steering wheel (instructions at the beginning of this thread), see if you have the open connector at the top that the cable goes in. If you do, with the key in the 'on' position very carefully take a paper clip or a very small flat screwdriver and temporarily short the bottom two pins. (I take no responsibility here). This should turn the crusie control indicator on on the dashboard. Another temporary short will turn it off. If this works, your truck is definitely pre-wired. As far as the switch goes, I guess just make sure that your mounting holes look the same as the mounting holes in the guide. The cover is only a few dollars so you can order that, or you can just drill out about a 1.5" hold in your existing cover.

I can tell you that i had all the same trepidations that you have, but I went ahead and ordered from the guy on ebay (who was just fantastic), made sure he knew the model I had and it all just worked. It took me about 15 min to install. One note is that those torx screws that hold the airbag in are very tight. I had to use a pair of pliers to turn the torx screwdriver to get them to budge. I would recommend that you tighten them back up just as much as they hold the airbag and there is a lot of forces in play should that ever blow. I have seen some people say that you should disconnect the neg on the battery first just in case, but I didn't.

    Good luck to you.

In the sellers thread for switch he mentions horn wire needs to be cut and required to his OEM cable. I noticed in the pic that the blue wire looks like it is snipped. Is this true? Must the wire be cut and wired to new harness wire? Thanks

With the parts I ordered, I did not have to do that. The cable from the switch went to the open connector and that was it.

Got everything in and installed today. Couldn’t have been easier. Best part is it only cost me about $20 and I never had to step foot in the dealership.

Looking for Cruise Control, Keyless entry to start
I obtained the Cruise Control Kit off the ebay site, but was looking for instructions on installing the wiring harness if my Tacoma SR (2017) is not prewired. Does anyone have the instructions for installing the harness?
    Thanks

See post 195 to check if you are pre-wired, my guess is yes.

I just pulled everything apart and went to install but there are no bolts provided with the Cruise control that I bought. I looked but couldn't find a parts break down. Does someone know the thread and size of the bolts I should buy?
