Thank you @St.Germain & @Jukeboxx13 -- I looked for your highway driving mods on your profile but couldn't find them (still a forum rookie) but interested in seeing what you recommend.

According to Toyota’s rating the automatic is more efficient but in the real world I’m getting about 2 mpg more with the manual. Pretty much the same locations and driving habits. Yes I had the tsb done on my auto that helped quite a bit but I still couldn’t come close to what it was rated for most days.

My general experience is that I can meet or better the window sticker with an MT. With automatics, the window sticker is sort of a goal to try to get to at some point.

I was floored how far off our Forester XT is for city and combined. Long trip / highway MPGs are its only saving grace.

I drive 120 miles a day 5 days a week. I have a 2017 offroad 4x4 dcsb and it's great. I get 22-23 mpg. I've got 30,000 miles on it. Bought it new in Dec 2016. I went from a 2006 tacoma 4cyl. manual I bought new and it had 300,000 on it when I traded it for the 2017. It was getting 27 mpg when I got rid of it. No regrets at all getting the 2017.

There's no real mods but just tricks.

Run higher tire pressure and get a tonneau and your hwy mpgs will go up or you can call me a liar. You can also draft behind big rigs but its kind of dangerous.

lots of little things and some bigger ones. here's a few choice ones of mine:
    - Hellwig rear sway bar, great for the highway
    - SPC UCA's for a higher-than-stock caster alignment. i currently run 4.7deg L & 5.2deg R and it's just awesome, perfect for the chassis on the highway. a much more relaxed and stable drive above 60.
    - customized seat bottom with more bucket, vastly more comfortable on long stretches
    - tint like crazy, limo style
    - i personally consider my E range tires a part of my highway setup, since i like a responsive ride and don't get along with soft C tires at all
    - tonneau, as i mentioned lessens wind effects
    - an over the top stereo with big bass so the NPR talking heads sound like giants from outer space
    - that last one was a joke but the bass matters!
    - top of the list is the OV tune on a MT truck.
    - did i mention something about a MT? I'll shut up now.

I bought a new Yaris for the mileage and saving miles on my 09 tacoma.the truck got 20,the car got 35ish.with the car note, license. and insurance, it was cheaper to just buy more gas.Hurricane Harvey got my Yaris, and 2 cars just don't pay for me.i drive 65 miles round trip 3 or 4 times a week to work.

I drive around 60 to 80 miles a day. I have a TRD sport and average around 18 MPGs. The highway driving is not bad.

Hey Tonered, what are you getting in your Forester XT? We have a Forester XT Touring 2017 and my wife is getting 27-28+ regularly commuting. When I get it I hit the #S and like to zip around a bit more than she does, but still get int the upper 20's. Not sure what the sticker says... Regardless, we pay a bit more for the higher octane gas.

A lot of variation on the MPG has to do not with covers, high octane gas, etc... The difference is driving habits and your commute. As I've shown in the past I can easily get upper 20's on my commute, over 30 a few times (documented previously). But this is a flat drive and a bit of stop and go and cruising 50-63 mph. Couple this with mostly flat it makes for a good commute and in and back home.

I think when you see the 16 mpg is when people set it on 70 mph+ and hit the cruise or are heavy on the foot and have a hilly drive. I would have to try pretty hard to get 16 mpg. Shoot I get 16 mpg pulling my smaller boat 200 miles too and from the lake! If i pull my bigger boat it sucks the gas!

I usually drive 85 mph to work about 18 miles every day here in AZ. I get around 16 mpg. I've also driven the same route to work and never went over 3k rpm and coasted at 65 mph. I ended up get 24 mpg on that trip to work. So it really depends on your driving habits and how hard you're working the gas pedal.

We average about 18mpg, mainly around town commutes and errands for my Wife. In the summers, it will get closer to 20.

We definitely see 27.5 on road trips.

I think the sticker was 19/28? I'll have to look.

If you're driving highway on flat terrain, you can get easily 24-26 mpg in your Tacoma. That's what I'm getting. These guys who are mired in the teens either have tungsten feet or live in the Himalayas.

Well Vlaude, I have to congratulate you because MSRP for your truck is $36.8k before TTL fees.
(I added the Tow Package because its almost impossible to find an OR without Tow Package.)
And this is in Bald Eagle, American Green dollars not Canadian.

Either you traded something in or Texas is giving their customers a whoopin' ~4k off MSRP. Which is next to impossible anywhere.

I drive 100-110 miles daily to and from work. Mainly highway through a winding canyon, and up and down mountain pass (snow and ice currently). Then when I get to my job sites, I drive over mud and snow and up and down a few steep 4x hillsides covered in said surfaces. I put the 2017 Taco O/R through its paces daily. That being said, I usually am looking at 19mpg on the “current tank gas mileage” to work and then about 30mpg for the way home (more downhill). I’m n0t a lead foot though either, but sometimes I have to pass slow cement trucks or others. Most of the drive is 60mpg for the meat of it. I’m 3 weeks in to the truck and so far goes like a champ. Am liking ECT power more these days than the techtronic transmission.
