Did a tow test when we bought the '05 Taco DCSB 4.0L auto....a Rhino SxS...

    s/axle 14' trailer...same area/terrain towing...so after my recent purchase of the '14 SBDC 4.0

    6 speed...loaded Rhino on a 7x14 tandem trailer...had two 8% grades to climb...going from

    6K' to 7100'....paved road....no A/C...what a dog....total weight of trailer & machine right at

2300#...good thing I have a 2500HD crew Chevy to tow any real loads...all in all..didn't buy

the Taco to tow..truck runs great on its own.......I'll still keep it......yes Rhino has General

    Grabber 2 AT 27-8.50x14's it.....14# air.....near perfect SxS off road tire !

Dang, that's too bad, but pretty surprising! I towed 3,500lbs 1,000 miles on the east coast in a 6 speed and it was a champ! Must be the elevation or something.

I see Tacoma's towing boats out here. Crazy it couldn't tow the Rhino. Maybe next time tow the Tacoma with the Rhino (sweet Rhino BTW).

Compared to your 2500HD, of course the Tacoma is a "dog" towing.

Me too. I see tacos tow pretty big fishing boats here in San Diego on tandem axle trailers no problem. Must be the altitude for sure

My old 2nd gen all stock towed by RZR 900 4 seater, but my trailer was extremely light. I'm not saying it towed it with ease, but it definitely towed it.

    What makes you think that?

OP is just whining the little Taco didn't haul ass up the mountains? My manual 4x4 4banger tows 4,000 regularly with no issues. It definitely not fast... and I'm at sea level

Are you saying the truck wouldn't tow 2300 lbs? What were your expectations? I tow 5500 lbs regular and think all is fine. Maybe the elevation....?

What gear were you in most of the time?

I think the torque peak is 4000 RPM, so I’m wondering if you were keeping it by the torque peak. Torque moves your trailer.

Ok, I get it now but it's the same exact motor and truck (including axle ratios) aside from the trans so as long as you know how to drive stick and choose the right gear it shouldn't be a problem
