NEED YOUR OPINION: Looking into investing in 33" all terrains tires for my Tacoma, If I do I'm going to re-gear. Which gear ring & pinion should I go with 4.10 or 4.56?

I would go 4.56, might as well do it once.

I'm running 4.56 in my 2006 with 32s and it is great

4.10 is what the calculation will give you but 4.56 is what most folks run and you'll be happy

4.10 if you aren't going to do 35s (you'll have the wantsies later) and want to go 80MPH on the highway with decent RPMS

4.56 if you don't care about highway speed or plan on DirtyFives in the nearish future.

Either way get a locker front and rear while you have the diffs open.

I regeared to 4.10s after switching to 33s. gear ratio is back to stock, a tiny but overgeared but I think it's great. 4.56 could be better for more control off road but highway driving would have suffered too much for me. at 75 mph I'm at ~2200 rpm

Think you might also want to consider how much weight your pushing around with those gears... If you are often fully loaded with camping gear, or towing a trailer, or just have a bunch of armor weighing you down 4.56 might be the better choice... I have 4.10s on 33'' and no complaints, just a little sluggish when im fully loaded, but to me the low highway rpms are nice as we have some 80mph speed limits here.

I'm still on stock gears with 33s and no real complaints.

I need to buck up and commit to Dirty Fives and then gear accordingly...

What did you have before the 33"

I've got 265/70/17 on now and going to 33" "pizza cutters" just wondering how much it'll affect speed/power

I’m currently running 32’s with stock gears. No issues but if I go with 33’s I think 4.10 would be best all around for both street and off road use.

My rig is heavy with a camper shell, high lift jack, power tank and recovery gear. But no steel bumpers, winch or steel under armor so with that said 4.10 might do the trick

I was in your shoes earlier this year. I'm running the BFG KO2 34/10.5/17 tires that measure out to exactly 33.25" in diameter. It was a PIG with stock gears. I noticed a huge difference immediately.

Like someone above mentioned, when you have the gears apart, you should plan on doing lockers at the same time. The labor is the same either way so you might as well. I went with ARB air lockers front and rear and I couldn't be happier. The truck just doesn't get stuck. It's incredible.

Also, I believe the perfect gear ratio is 4.30 but they don't make it for the front (they do for the rear). I decided to go with 4.56 gears due to weight when I pack up the truck with gear and also because in the future I MIGHT go with slightly larger tires. After putting about 5,000 miles on the truck with the new gears I can honestly say I'm glad I went with 4.56 gears.

    Google tire size calculator
If u going with 285/70/17(32.7" not trully 33" if they exist. then its only 3.5% error but if stock was 265/65/17 then it will be 7% error. I dont see what big deal is. If error is 7% then if u going 50mph on speedometer its only 53.5mph in real speed

I'm running 32's and some armor, canopy etc. and I plan on regearing at some point (4.56.or 4.88) since the truck feels sluggish now compared to when it was bone stock.

my truck is a 6 speed double cab short bed, it came with the 265/65/17 stock and i just put on 285/70/17 and not only was the speedo off 4mph but the truck feels like a dog. its maybe only a 7% difference but the added weight of the tires and the larger diameter really makes adifference. Im thinking about going with the 4.56 gears.

They make 4.30's for the front now, that's what I'm eventually going with.

Nobody asked which transmission you have...fail. If you want slightly better (more torque) than stock go 4.10 for a manual trans and 4.30 for auto.

4.10 will make it feel stock with the 6 speed.

This is really the winning option. So glad I didn't pull the trigger on a regear when I went to 33s - the 4.30 wasn't available yet.

    With 33s?

    Pretty high

I'm still on stock gears and I'm climbing close to 3k rpms at 80 with 33s. You can almost see the gas gauge dropping.
