Stock rev limiter and low boost, the valve train is just fine on 9 psi. The pistons and rods are the weak points on the 1GR. Butting rings from tight factory gaps shatters the ring lands. Raised rpm + boost will snap the sickly rods.

Only so much timing, until it spins in reverse.... But seriously, on ~8.7 psi with my turbo kit, (which isn't as efficient as it could be) with journal bearing 6266, it made ~400whp and 450wtq. Conservative timing, on 93.

This is back to turbos efficiency.

Boost pressure it irrelevant to power levels. Has to do with how well the turbo is working and more importantly how much VOLUME of air it is moving. Not how high of pressure.

Still a little rich but i nearly put it to the floor in the video and then i did shortly afterwards. My boost gauge is only showing like maybe 6 psi but its cheap so it could be off or that generic wg spring may not quite be 7.5lb or somewhere in between. At any rate, this thing is gonna be even more of a rocket when i pull a little more fuel past 3 psi

Well technically it's air mass that "matters" ;). There are a handful of variables that will determine final power output independent of air pressure which I think is the point you're trying to make.

Or you can be like me. Run a turbo past efficiency to make more power. The little turbo I run maxed pushes 38lb/min at 30psi falling to 24psi at 8k rpms. I then clamped wastegate shut, ported turbo to creep and it hits 36psi falling to 28psi at high rpm. She hits 42lb min on a 38lb rated turbo. Its just blowing hot air, major timing and still not a blip of knock. But made over 40lbtq more than when running lower boost.

The awesome thing about my turbo is that I see over 20psi at 3500rpm. Stock turbo from an evolution 3 lancer from Japan. Hits like a rock when you got 400lb tq at mid rpms.

Cxracing.com (or whatever their website is) they were like $28 a piece with 1 flange (i didnt need any flange since i already had them welded in and just had crap clamps) i think the 2 flange kits were ~$35. It knocked like 400 rpm at least of my spool

yeah see..if you had a turbo that ran at 42lb/min you'd make even more power..probably a lot more. But you'd completely change your power band and response.

    Thus the challenges of boosting.

Nah wasnt me. We did decide that the cx flanges are all female (or possibly supposed to have a bit of the exhaust pipe stick thru on one side to fix that issue )tho, and the ones i had had a male and female system

Within the next 3-5 years we will start seeing an electric spool that initially feeds the turbo under 2-3k rpm. Toyota I think even pulled a patent on something of the sort this year

yeah an electric assist turbo would be smart. Complex though. And expensive.

Probably cheaper than twin charging though.

Yeah the two big advantages from the initial tests I could find are 1. You don’t have to deal with the restrictions of the smaller turbo when you reach the high rpm.
    2. You a single turbo system is dramatically easier/cheaper to keep cool when exposed to daily driving conditions.

interesting. But that is a full hybrid motor bolt on.

Jack is talking about having a turbo with an electric motor attached to it. So it keeps the turbo spun up like an anti lag system.
