Isn't also bad to have it completely charged and plugged in the entire time?

I don't think that is relevant that much anymore with the new batteries that devices are using. Back when you got a device they wanted you to run it dead, charge it up, run it dead so the battery got "seasoned" not true with Lithium Ion batteries anymore.

so, idk if it was just a trial thing or what, but I was able to Blutooth connect the garmin and my ipad (using Gaia gps app) and it put an arrow on my location. I turned my wifi off on the ipad so it was running nothing but the BT connection, walked outside around he block and it kept the arrow on my exact location the entire walk. I "skipped" the activation on the garmin so there is no subscription or anything. Having said that, I have not tested off my street I live on, so I dont want to put false info out there. Looks like you can pull the data from the garmin though without activation. You just wont have any texts, SOS, etc features.

EDIT: my ipad also does not have cellular data or anything hooked up to it (no plan) so its not like the ipad was pulling other location data (which I also turned off for the ipad)
