You ever just get tired of working on truck?

i sold my old Porsche 911 because i got tired of wrenching on it..it quit being fun.

now my truck. i'm driving long and far next week. i need to change my oil early..still 750 miles on "maint-light", and i am long overdue for my differentials and transfer case. lube the driveshaft zerks..then GO HUNTING!!

i dread doing this job. i hate the smell of gear oil..

procrastinating bigtime!!

it is stupid expensive to get it done somewhere..and i am slow, deliberate, and careful.

i'll crack a beer, and dive right in..gah!

 

I get that way from time to time, maintenance isn't terrible I'm used to powering through it because I've done it all a bunch of times. My strategy now is to not let it pile up since I have three vehicles to do it on. So if I have 45mins free I'll do my oil or front and rear diffs. I use days off for big stuff like suspension or engine tuning.

 

Go hunting! You'll never look back and wish you spent more time doing maintenance on your truck. Hunting season is short.

yea..i need to do the maint because i am about to drive all over the country shooting at things.

maybe it is the recent wildfires that got me in funk.

I’m pretty sure every vehicle requires maintenance. Pretty much all the same things, especially the longer you own it

 

I have these same feelings but they are with doing mods to the truck. I’ll be doing some wiring project and halfway through I’m just like screw this I want to be done. So much soldering and crimping and wire stripping and routing wires and taking apart the body. I get chills thinking about it! But I always like the finished product, as long as I don’t try to cut corners lol.

 

Neither of my 911s were too bad to work on, I actually liked working on those. The car that made me hate working on cars was my B5 Audi S4. The 2.7T is crammed into that engine bay and there is no room to get to anything. And, whenever you have to work on one part, you have to replace every part on the way to that part because everything is made of plastic that is brittle as shit now from being heat cycled a million times.

I like working on my truck, because I never have to repair anything, it's only easy maintenance stuff.

 

I have to remember to stop when I get tired. The only thing I do then is mistakes. It is not limited to working on trucks either. A friend and I put up a picket fence. The last few sections we were just exhausted, but wanted to finish the project. Those sections looked like the hind leg of a dog that was broken in three places. The next day we had to do it all over. Ever try pulling ring shank nails? Let's just say that it was a teachable moment. Tired=Quit. No exceptions.

 

I’d love to just work on my truck. It hasn't even been washed in several months. I’m close to being banned.

 

Had a 96 Audi A4 and everything broke. It was terrible to work on. Then I had a Mazda, not so bad to work on. Then the Tacoma 2.7, a dream to work on. Now, I *try* to take it easy and enjoy the process instead of rush, get frustrated, dehydrated, etc.

 

Do I get tired of working on it? Not really. I like tinkering with things and 95% of the things I do to my truck are because Im modifying something. The general maintenance isnt bad to do on these trucks either so I dont mind the other 5%.

The car that made me hate working on cars... girlfriends 06 passat 2.0t. You probably know audi/vw use alot of the same parts, zero room under hood, and yes, had to replace several brittle ass parts... I would always be so grumpy to my girlfriend when I had to work on that car... we got her a 4runner and life is good.

 

I always heard VWs were a pain, but my wife's jetta is a piece of cake to do basic maintenance on. Did the plugs the other day and it was actually quicker than my Tacoma.

 

Dude... I absolutely LOATHE working on my truck. So much to the point where I no longer even pop the hood unless I have an active leak. I don't drive it much, or far, so doing anything else to it maintenance wise is just far and few in between.

 

Usually when I get mechanically burned out it's because a lot of shit went wrong during the week and I've spent more than 10 hours that week working on either the F250, ram 3500, New holland tractor, chain saws, Cat D3, Mack dump truck, Ford backhoe, or (less likely) a family members vehicle.

 

Reminds me of the saying, "A cobbler's child often goes barefoot"

 

Older VWs are like Lego's. Super easy to maintain, fuck with, and modify. I spent a decade doing this before I bought my Tacoma. I daily drove a 12v swapped MK2 Jetta. Ive never touched a MK5 or MK6 though, but I cant imagine it being much harder. Vag Com practically tells you what needs replaced

 

The diagnosis is the easy part.

I worked on my sisters 03 beetle (1.8?) non turbo and it wasn't bad aside from the brittle parts.

I will never work on another 2.0t I know that much... I remember calling this company that makes a specific part I needed, I was talking with the owner who specializes in this stuff, and he laughed and said "good luck" when I told him what I was working on.
