Wouldn’t a V8 option be nice?

So just out of curiousity, but am I the only one out there that would like to see a V8 option in the Tacoma? Nothing crazy, just a small 4.something L V8.

It just seems like Toyota messed up going from the 4.0L V6 to the 3.5L V6 to be more “fuel efficient” and well, I have to say that it definitely is not.

I drive 27 miles to work every day and I’m averaging 17.5ish mpg. It is most likely due to the horrible drivetrain, but if that’s my average mpg then I would absolutely sacrifice 1-2mpg for more horsepower, increased towing and hauling capabilities, and it would most likely force Toyota to correct things like the braking power and upgrade the suspension to handle the increase in engine capabilities. Not to mention the exhaust sound that you could get out of it!

Also, I would much rather see a V8 option over a freaking diesel any day. Call me crazy, but just my $.02 cents.

    What do you all think?

    Nobody would buy it.

Hybrid, if anything attracts buyers in the future.

They could do it. If the drivetrains could handle the trd supercharged 4.0's they could do it. They would need to bump up the fuel systems though. That crappy drop in tank fuel pump will lean out a tacoma in 30k miles. Ever wonder why the 1st gens could go 300k ? Replacement fuel filter > drop in gas tank lifetime fuel pump/filter combo

I'd have bought a v8 Tacoma if available.

I don't think a tacoma is big enough for a v8. Everyone complains, but I like this engine. Hella good mpg and an ect button to kickass

I think it would sell like hot cakes. The only thing the 3rd gen Tacoma lacks is a proper engine.

Check out the new member forum on https://www.tundras.com/ if you don't believe me. There's been a tidal wave of new members dropping the 3.5L and getting into a Tundra with a nice juicy V8.

While I miss my V8, I don't have many of the complaints that most do about this truck.

The point of my post was to illustrate how many people went to a bigger truck simply because they hated the engine in the 3rd gen Tacoma.

    I almost did the same.
My transmission was acting up and i got worried (2nd gen). I then started doing maths about trans r&r vs a rebuild.

Then i went and did maths on a new tundra.... i want NOTHING to do with those 3.5s

Trans has been fine since, so..... 4.0 it is for now

Truck cap , husky liners, deflector shield, ARE truck cap.
The 4.6 out of the Tundra and a straight axle would be nice.

I drive 27 miles one way to work and average 20-21 miles most every time.
I’ve got long bed, heavy atm pro tires and front lip removed. It’s automatic with ov tune

    V8 doesn’t fix Tacoma problems.
