Hybrid, if anything attracts buyers in the future.[/QUOTE]

Hell no. How many hybrid trucks are out there? ZERO. Plus this “efficiency” kick started when the cost of gas shot up over $4-5/gallon for gas. Now that gas prices have somewhat stabilized at $2-3/gallon people would absolutely pay the extra $4-5K they would charge

No doubt. But 3% of buyers don’t sell a truck.

Really no point, anyway. It’s never going to happen and I’d rather talk about boobs.

Actual sales figures for last month vs discussion boards don't show that. Wait til 2018's come out I think it will be amazing.

I have to say that I agree that the engine has potential, but like I indicated in my original post the drive train is freaking horrible!

The only way to force Toyota to fix it is to call corporate to submit a formal complaint. Or abandon the platform to drive down sales which would make no sense at all when it just needs some fine tuning and would never happen.

I had a 2005 Tundra, the smaller 1st gen, with the 4.7 V-8. I pull a jet-ski that total weight is about 1500 lbs. I didn't notice much more power with the Tundra than I have with my 4.0 V-6. I would appreciate better technology to improve MPG's, but the V-8 I don't see many people wanting.

What is the word about the 2018’s? All I heard was there was going to be some color options, more safety features (TSS), and that’s about it...

Corporate Average Fuel Economy--CAFE--is the reason the small V8 is history. It's also why most all cars now are small 4 cyl grocery getters. The car companies will do ANYTHING to get one tenth more MPG per vehicle. We are lucky to have a V6. Toyota knows how poor the engine map is on the 3rd gen. But it's necessary to achieve the sacred CAFE number. All this and gas now $2/gal. and the USA with enough natural gas to last the next 100 years at the present consumption rate.

No V8 needed this little truck. Gets great mileage if driven right and has what it needs with ECT. Someone mentioned "No Hybrid Trucks" - GMC/Chevy has had them for years in their truck and SUV lineup.

I really don't get it. The 3rd gen is just as fast 0-60 as 2nd gen. Low end torque is not the same off the line. Gauntlet tow 3rd gen beats 2nd gen by a whopping 45 seconds. If you hit the gas while moving it throws you back with 18% more hp than the 2nd. Much much faster in that range. Are we just complaining about the low end torque here ?

I seen that video. The engine was practically red lining and the truck went down to like 4 or 5 mpg. Was totally not impressed at all.

Love my 4.7... averaging 17.8 90% city much more enjoyable to drive than my 3rd gen was. This motor and transmission in a Tacoma and I would've kept it.

Gas prices stabilize for the shortest of times, it always goes up in the summer. There may be no factory hybrid trucks now but there will be one or two very soon. If the market is willing to test hybrid semi's soon, then the market is ready for a hybrid pickup. Think about having electric motors up front, no strain and loss of mpg due to true 4wd (front power isn't tied to just what a drive shafts gives it), instant torque for acceleration when towing for when you want to "drag race". There's so many possibilities, and if you aren't ready to change, then you can be left behind in the dust. Innovation is what keeps our race going, we get bored easily, and we sure as hell aren't going to give up our combustion engines anytime soon, so why not give the earth a break for 100 years or so of GOOD hybrid technology, because its either already here, or coming very soon.

I think that if Toyota corrected the drive train issues in the 3rd gen then it would be a much better platform and consumers would be much happier with the truck overall.

People are frustrated because they drop $35-40K+ on a Tacoma and have to invest in aftermarket tunes or shift sense add one just to get the hardware to perform basic functions.

Who cares. If you lose a running race do you say the other guy was breathing harder thats why he won ???
So 3rd gen backs off 40% on power and ties 2nd gen that's flooring it.
Bottom line is the power is there if you need it, 18% more than 2nd. :burnrubber:

Ha! No man, I’m just saying. We can belly ache all we want to in here and spit ball options, but nothing is going to happen unless people tell Toyota directly
