How did we get off topic? I know its the internet. Can we get back to welding? Please? I'll start.

This is a little trailer I built for customer last year. The bars along the side are removable and to be placed cross wise. This gives a place for the kayak racks to be clamped to.

Is not cutting metal no longer part of welding??

I must have missed the memo!!

If you had more room you would just fill it up like I did

Lord save me. Round cuts with an angle grinder and no more grinding wheels....

One of these days it’ll be done. :gossip: Definitely before my brother in laws birthday on the 11th.

Slow progress, but I’m pressing through. Again, this is my first fabrication with metal ever so I’m pretty much making every mistake in the book and learning a ton.

Hopefully my bumper build will go much more smoothly and quickly.

Probably took me 2.5 hours to get this dang intake cut out and mock-mounted.

It is a little higher than I would’ve liked  but I’m making a push with the few hours of daylight left in New England.

The way I look at it, if you still have the desire to fabricate after going the " hard way", then you will most likely stick with fabrication for the long haul.

Long time TW member, first time posting in this thread. Thought I'd provide a little comedic relief.

Always wanted to learn to weld, but I've never had the opportunity/the need/or taken the time to do so. I recently decided to build a little set of brackets to mount some Yakima racks onto my bedrails since there isn't anything on the market that did what I was looking for.

Please try and contain your laughter. I borrowed a little Lincoln Handy Mig from my dad. Turns out he bought one years ago at a pawn shop for $50.

I look forward to continuing to practice and hopefully improve. I have no visions of grandeur. Just feel like it's a handy and useful skill to possess. And I enjoyed it

Read, watch vids, and weld. Best way to learn is practice.

And great start. Better to try it and have ugly welds than to never try. And starting is the hardest oart.

I'm guessing you are using flux core welding wire? Can you check to make sure the polarity of your welding leads is correct?

I'm willing to bet over 80% of us self learners made this mistake. I know I did.

I still check my polarity every time I have the cover open to change wire spool. And I haven't used flux core on this machine ever.

Yes I was. That's the only setup I have at this time. I'll have to read up on how to check the polarity.
Pretty sure you'll have to dumb that down even more for me. Sorry, I'm ridiculously green to welding.

Hell I don't know if I had the settings on my helmet correct. I couldn't see shit. Felt like I was welding blind.

Ha honestly I have no clue. The machine and wire are in my shed at the moment. It's silver ok color versus the copper color I've seen.

A lot of machines have a diagram on the inside by the feed that show which way for which type. Check and see if yours does. Takes the guess work out when starting.
