Mickey Thompson Classic 2 wheels

Hey experienced wheel Tacomas out there, I just bought 16X8 Mickey Thompsons from Summit, they have 3-5/8 inch back spacing, 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. The problem is the thickness of the wheel doesn't allow the lug nuts to go on the threads only about 3/8 inch. Anyone experience this? Thanks, loner tacomer.

 

if you really want to run those wheels, you may want to contact spidertrax 1800 286 0898 there spacers are designed for concentric hub and interlock. ive been running them for a year now and no issues. jus not sure w/ classic II

 

I had the same problem with my BBS RW's. You either need longer studs (go here), or extended thread lug nuts (go , halfway down the page).

I went with the E/T lugs and am happy with them.

 

Is the problem the backspacing or OP posted, or the overall design of the wheel?

 

The problem he's describing is due to the design of the wheel. The wheel is too thick between the lug seat and the back of the wheel for the short tacoma studs. This occurs with several styles of aftermarket wheels on the taco.

The OP may have a whole other problem with the backspacing. The 3 5/8 is much less backspacing than recommended for a taco. Ideal is between 4 and 4.5 if you want big tires, and 5 and 5.5 if you are just running 265's.

 

OK I'm a little bit confused since I've never seen or experienced this problem first hand. If there is a thick wheel that leaves hardly any threads from the studs exposed how would a longer lug nut help? I can see how longer studs would work...which is probably what I will end up doing. With these longer studs, will I need a "deeper" lug nut? Sorry, just a little confused.

 

These are the lugs I'm talking about. They are extended THREAD lugs, not extended lugs. They have a shank on the end that threads onto the wheel below the seat.



I actually have more thread of the stud in these lugs than I did with my stock wheels and stock lugs.

 

Thanks for the clarification. So since the original poster only has 3/8" of threads to use, will these lug nuts work with them, safely?

 

I didn't measure how much thread I had through my wheels before I put these on. I'd estimate no more than 1/2". So this will greatly improve that.

With the extended thread lugs, I only have about 1/8" of the stud that isn't threaded.

 

I called M/T on the thickness issue with the classic 2 wheels,they didn't recommend using Gorilla lug nuts. I then called Gorilla and gave them the wheel lug opening dimensions, they said the opening is too small. I decided to send the wheels back to Summit. Thanks for your info.

 

Probably for the better since the backspacing on those wasn't ideal either.
