I'm guessing the inner housing would have to be re-designed as well?

When something stumps me...I go all in to concur this bitch.

Just the inside lens really. it needs to be split further down for the reverse

had a crazy idea over the weekend, so I decided to give it a go. This is super rough and just a test..but I am getting somewhere.
It looks like its from the 80's.... which is the point:rolleyes:

I am on my phone outside at the moment so it's hard to see, but they look great. I think what throws them off a little is the shape of the entire light.
They look awesome though. Need to see them lit up like Christmas.

Yeah,, I can't change the shape. Although I did realize I need to make the red much larger and the orange section smaller..like the originals.

Looks good. Would still be cool to see an outer lense made just like the original, but I know that would be expensive. I'd be in for a set though.:boink:

It's a textured film behind the clear lens from what I can see. The lens isn't painted at all.

Correct. Just throwing out different designs right now until I find one that resonates with me

Although not my style, I like it. Better than painted version.

    It's a catch 22;
Use colored tint sprayed from the outside... but you don't get the "checkered" lens pattern like the original lens
    Or
Keep the outside clear and use a colored checkered inner lens... gets the OEM look but not as clean looking as tints from the outside..

Ultimately getting an entire lens molded with the pattern, colors, and texture built in would be ideal. But my source is telling me about $10k for a custom mold. (Just not worth it IMO).

ouch 10k, yeah i don't think so either. Film inside the lens will work just fine

I didn’t think the textured pattern would matter until you did this. It makes a huge difference, looks great!

Holy hell that's a textured film I couldn't even tell until I had to really look at it, great work though!

What's the durability like with the textured film? If it's solid, and you'll stand by its reliability, then you've got my vote.

It's a project just for him, too much work right now to create a group sale or similar. We are just along for the journey which I have no problem with.

It's actually a thicker textured acrylic panel that is heated up and vacuformed to the inside of the lens(to conture that shape). From there, I tint the sections for the proper amber/red colors.(the panel is clear by default).
This is much more durable than any tint vinyl. And is on the inside, so protected by the outside clear lens:)
