My dad is on his second frontier. He had a 2006. Bought a new one a couple years ago 2016 model. They look identical minus the color. Besides all the differences everyone else mentioned is that I despise the turning radius on the frontier. It ( short bed frontier) feels like it turns wider than my friends long bed taco. And my inlaws have a long bed frontier, I swear my 30' Pierce arrow XT fire truck turns tighter than the damn frontier long bed.

The Frontier Pro-4x is my favourite mid size truck. They are overbuilt and all about function over form. The 4.0L is quiet, smooth and powerful. Tough steel bed with beefy alumimum tie down rails on the bedsides and floor, grippy spray in liner. Excellent visibility and seating position. All the creature comforts you would expect in a new vehicle. 265/75R16 ATs, 4 wheel disc brakes, 8 way power adjustable drivers seat, full skid plates. You just get a lot for what you pay, At $36k CAD for a fully loaded Pro-4x they are a bargain.

The only 4x4 I really like more is the current 4runner because it has function and form in one package!

Sure did... it's what I had to review. I've driven rented full size American pickups with 3x as many miles and much fewer issues. I don't think you should be having these issues at that mileage, regardless of how it was treated... how do you mistreat a gas cap to get a loose cap warning? The turning radius, comfort, features, aesthetics, etc, all don't change with mileage.

I completely forgot to mention what a pain this was. Probably one of my biggest complaints. Due to my work, I'm on a lot of tight logging roads and searching for turnoffs. Every time I missed a turn, I'd have to do a 10 point turn to get spun around. Frustrating and surprising to say the least.

My truck has 20k miles of abuse and I'd still happily throw someone the keys for a review :)

^ This. Comparing cost you can get a new Frontier for way less than a new Tacoma (and considering how old the Frontier is - you should get it for way less). Yes, people complain that the Frontier declines in value more than the Tacoma which is 100% true but considering that you almost always have to pay close to full price for a Tacoma vs. the rebates and the fact that Nissan dealers are willing to cut the price on this model - it all comes out in the wash.

Looks are subjective, but I like the exterior of the Frontier. If they kept the price down, did a major update to the interior, and did a minor refresh to the exterior, improved the side overlap front crash rating then I would probably buy one. It basically has all I need in a truck especially the more upright seating position as compared to a Tacoma. I had an Xterra for a few years and the drive train and suspension were great.

Until then, I'll wait one more year to see what Ford and Nissan bring to the table at the same time hoping that prompts Toyota to make some changes as well.

My truck just barely broke the 100,000 kms mark so it has a few years left on it :D

Syncros, you have to put a picture of your Frontier as your avatar - or at least post a picture of it in this thread.

BTW - does your tag have anything to do with the MTB bike part manufacturer?

I realize the current Frontier is based on a design that came out in 2005. To compare a new Frontier 2017/2018) it is more in line with the 2Gen Tacoma. It has not been refreshed in years. The Frontier reminds me of my 06 Tacoma.

I looked at the new Tacoma, the GMC twins and the Frontier back in December 2016. After numerous test drives, comparing dimensions, prices, etc, I decided on the Frontier Pro 4x. I just don't need all the wiz bang electronics offered in the Tacoma or Colorado/Canyon. With limited garage space I also didn't want the longer and wider midsize truck. The Nissan fits my needs.

As far as looks, it is subjective. Besides it is pretty funny to read posts about the looks of the 3G Tacoma photos were first released. Many posters were not thrilled with the front end and grill. Now, many are saying the Tacoma is the best looking midsize.

It will be interesting to see the new Nissan Frontier and Ford Ranger when they are offered up.
