Visor sticker removal

Here's the current situation:





I could live with it that way but will probably touch it up again.

 

The discolored square would bother me more than the sticker. To each their own though...

 

Thats what the alcohol/goo gone is for

 

That and the camera / flash makes it stand out much more than it really is.

I will take some non-flash pics outside tomorrow, if that helps.

 

It takes a several times with goo-gone and light brushing to get it completely gone. A white shop rag is helpful too.

 

How much alcohol do you have to drink to get it to the point where you have it now?.... You're almost there. I'd bet another 1/2 bottle of Rye and you'd be done....!! hehe

I'd rather live in sticker hell than smell goo gone one more time in my life.

 

Yeah, not a pleasant smell, but it thankfully doesn't linger in the interior.

I just hate warning stickers, esp big ones, with an absolute passion.

It's a personal problem.

Interior color makes a huge difference. I just used a blow dryer and peeled it off, no goo gone needed. I could take a stiff nylon brush to it and get the nap back but haven't bothered yet.

 

Yeah. Black is difficult. The Wife's Forester will be a piece of cake since it is light grey also.

The stickers were always in my peripheral vision and cannot get used to them. The slight residue on my black visors is never noticed unless I look for it. Count me satisfied.

 

Having that residue spot would piss me off more than having the sticker there. And over time that will only get filthier as more dirt sticks to that area.

 

Even right after the sticker came off, the residue was not sticky. I'm not sure what the stuff actually was, but I think is is more like an iron on patch than an sticky adhesive.

Either way, it is a massive improvement, for me.

Yeah it's a little easier to do with your visors. This would never work with the cloth on my 15. I got a visor cover from http://zulunylongear.com/ for my driver side since the stickers are pretty hideous.

 

I removed these warning labels by using a heat gun on low and used tweezers to get ahold of the corner then gently peeled away while stopping and heating as needed. Came off sooo easily and the visor can take a lot of heat from the heat gun. The hotter and slower you peel it will result in less glue left on the visor.

I then put a nice layer of Goo-gone (orange smelling stuff not the chemical smelling stuff) and let it soak for a little then hit it with the heat gun on high heat. It will start to "steam" and then grab a stiff brush and scrub it off while wiping with a old lint free cotton towel. Do this a couple times and it will look brand new with no residue at all. The hairdryer wouldn't get it hot enough so I risked it with the heat gun and worked perfectly and scrubbing pretty aggressively left no "pilling" or damage to the visor whatsoever, the heat gun is where it's at I believe to release as much glue as possible. I also removed the clear insurance pouch that's to the right of the warning patch and it's put on with a way stronger press/glue and couldn't get all of that off but way better than having it reflect during the day/night. I have the leather package with maybe a different interior fabric on top than some so just a fair warning.

Hope this helps someone even if it's to get the extra residue off by using the heat gun and goo-gone trick.
