Just spoke with him. The first owner worked at Toyota and had the frame replaced in 2012 and also repainted it in 2012. Cool guy I spoke with and a straight shooter. I've been around the block many of times, but feel he is legit. His price was 6400 with the brand new grabber tires, but told me he would do 6250. It's a 6.5 round trip for me so I'll offer him 5900 cash in hand. Good deal?

    Clean title, no issues

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
For a clean one around here with a rust free frame? that's not a bad price.

The v6 is definitely the way to go power wise and you have the option of adding another 100 hp with a supercharger
with a few supercharger mods and changing the ECU if you decide, if it was a 1997 forward there would be no need to change the ECU, to bad the transmission is not a 5 speed as they last forever.

Got the VIN# from him: 4TAVN73F8SZ059789

The OEM converter(s) were replaced along with a Flowmaster exhaust back in 2012

Just don't know if that's a fair price or if I should offer less. I'm a past VW owner and I never had a Toyota truck

New frame, repainted body, new tires, that alone would cost you 6000.00
Not sure what else you need to know.

Just nervous, that's all. I never owned a car/truck ever that had more than 125k. I'm new to the Toyota truck so I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision. I'm thankful for everyone's help with my questions and giving me insight. My horror is that the tranny will go out on me with my luck and cost $$$$ to replace. I've only owned 5/6 speed manuals over the past 15 years

There are new cars that have transmissions that crash at 75,000 miles, there are no guarantees on any used vehicle you buy. I have 541,000 on my Tacoma with zero issues and 355,000 on my tahoe auto
with zero issues. It's all a crap shot and depending on how it was taken care of, Or go buy a new Tacoma and belly up for a car payment of 500.00
    instead.

I'm 95% going to get it. Is the tranny the A340E/A340H and if it ever needed to be rebuilt, what would the estimate cost be?

Go for it and make your offer if it looks right when you see it. It sounds decent to me. But I’m not there to see it. I know it’s a challenge to deal with it being far away. Someone’s going to get it if you don’t.

Toyota are strong. If the trans goes your better off swapping a used trans from a part out.

My purchased my 96 4runner 6 years back at 180k miles. Now had 280k miles. Things I've replaced. Radiator, fuel pump, injector, rear axle seal. Other than that she is still solid.

I’ve had a 3.4 and a 2.7, both automatic. I get worse mileage with the 4cyl then I ever did the V6. Mostly because the 4cyl has absolutely no low end torque, and you have to rev it just to accelerate decently in traffic, where you could baby the V6 and still get decent acceleration.

If you think to long about it, it will be sold soon, it's a fair price but not there to inspect it

When I get there, what are the main key point to inspect? He also mentioned zero leaks and the only issue is the positive battery terminal is coming loose time to time and he will replace it

since you're pretty sure you'll get it, go check it out then :)
As I said, the thing to check first is the frame, then checking if the truck is mechanically sound

About your worries about a high mileage vehicle: if it was well maintained and taken care of, there's no problem, because these trucks don't die. Also, mileage tell you how far the truck has been driven, not how it was driven. I'd prefer 150k not abused than 90k but abused. Ask what he did with the truck, what he used it for, if that can help you

This is so true. They little 2.7 sucks on gas if any hills are in the equation.

    That's why you turbo.

Usually the valve covers leak on these motors - if they're not on this one that means he's kept up on little things most likely which is a good sign.

Inspect the frame anyway, plus the exhaust, the leaf springs to make sure they're still arched or at least not frowning. Check to see that doors @ windows function correctly. Turn on the lights, blinkers, dome light, open the glove box, use seat belts etc. to make sure everything is working properly.

You don't rebuild these transmissions unless you do it yourself. Replacements are cheap - $500 or less.
