I'll be lifting my 2006 Tacoma doublecab soon. On all my other Toyota's I've pretty much run the same set up more or less, 285/75/16 BFG A/T's on 8" rim with the Bilstein 5100 lift. The BFG's have always been a good all around tire for my wheeling needs , good in the snow, and last pretty long. I just had them on my 2006 Ford E250 4x4 van and they held up well with all of that weight, and wheeled good, too. But a couple of friends haven't had such good luck with theirs lately, and have had serious chunking issues.

So with that being said, is there something comparable or better? I've been internetting and found some that I like , but you never know how good they really perform or hold up. So lets hear what you like!

Also, can you run 15" rims on the 2nd gen Tacoma's? The tires and wheels are usually much cheaper.

    Thanks!

Running TOYO RT right now 285/70/17. Just picked up Goodyear duratracs to use in the winter as they are snow rated and should be much better. I hear great things about the ko2s especially on lighter vehicles like ours. For all terrain tires I think toyo, Cooper, bfg, nitto [made by toyo] and Goodyear all make really good quality tires and I wouldn't run anything but one of the above. You can definitely find cheaper tires than them but to me they are more expensive for a reason

I'm running the round one's, but to answer the question of 15 inch rims. No you can not run 15 inch rims on the 2006 Tacoma as the brakes housings and all that will rub. Everybody seems to run the BF G's but take a look at the Cooper ST/MAXX I had them and loved them. And pick whatever you are gonna do quick as this sale won't be around forever.

Best value for tires out there. Rugged looking, excellent traction, inexpensive compared to the other tires out there

about to do a 6.5 in lift and went with Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Seemed to be one of the newer tires/technology out. Hybrid between an All terrain and a Mud Terrain! Was reading reviews and it was in the top 5 recommended for the aggressive look i wanted (Mud Terrain look) while combining the benefits of quiet All-terrain road manners.

Cooper Discover ATw. Winter gets messy here, and these work well in snow and ice. They wear a little faster than the AT3, but not enough to be a big deal. Relatively quiet--for a real truck tire.

Cooper discoverer st Maxx's in 265/75/16s on trd faux Beadlocks. This is my 2nd set. Ran them on my 04 xterra and had over 45k at time of trading that truck. Would've easily got another 20k out them before they were toast. Great all around tire

Another for the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's. They are my favorite tire after running Duratracs, KO2's and Cooper AT3's.

The TOYO's are a nice tire, but the BFG KOs have a snow triangle on the tire, whereas the TOYO's don't.

TOYO's on the left, BFG's on the right

Holy moly! Thanks for confusing me more. There are some really good options. I'm still leaning towards the KO2's, but the ridge grapplers are good looking too. I hadn't even thought about the Falkens. It's about to get real snowy up here. I'm running Cooper 265 70 16 at's right now and they might just be perfect for winter. But I want to do lift and tires at the same time, mainly because I need instant gratification and need to see the end results. And I will be able to sell my old tires.

Im running 285/70r17 Nitto Exo Grapplers, snow rated and look amazing. Always hear great things about nitto if you have the money. I had SUPER BAD experiences with BFG KO tires but my good buddy has KO2s and loves them. Thinking about giving them a try again.
