This is exactly how I felt about 1.02c-A for the first 400 or so miles. Then the truck started to revert to its old bad habits.. shifting out of 2nd way too soon, shifting from 6th to 4th for slight inclines, etc.
And gas mileage dropped about 3-6mpg for the exact same commutes since first installing 1.02c-A.
I know you've said to "Try 102c-C"... but I haven't yet. I'm trying to see if 102c-A will work its way through this. Installing another version is only guaranteed to provide a temporary solution... until the truck learns to be "stupid" again.

I understand completely - I think the shift performance is more fluid with "shiftC" overall but I'll keep on driving the heck out of it. I'm planning a 325mi round trip to do some whitewater tomorrow so by the end of that trip I'll have 500 on C and will report back if anything has degraded in any way but for now I'm really enjoying it.

What I can say is that most of the miles I've logged on C have been city miles - slow speeds, lots of accelerations from a stop, etc., and historically this has been a downfall on the learning after driving in the city for awhile without some highway in there to balance it out. That's why I think I was so pleased yesterday - the incessant start/stop just felt so easy and fluid that I wasn't all that pissed about being in traffic.

I have over 1500 miles on 1.02C (A) without any bad learning yet. But my truck rarely goes into 6th because of 34"s so could not comment on the big down shift to 4th. My MPG has gone up about 2 MPG to 17MPG and that includes 150 miles of dirt at Moab. Was about 15MPG on last release. Still have the weird thing when going slow and then slowly accelerating around a corner it feels like neutral then hits kind of hard. Never did this stock or any of the other release. Also noticed the TQ rarely goes into lock now or it seems that way any way. I have my carista back from son so I hope I can find the TQ lock pid and see what is going on here.

This is a ShiftA issue (I had it too), doesn't happen with ShiftC but then with your tires not sure if you'd feel a degradation off the line with less aggressive 1st gear.

Anyone know the difference between the bench tune option and the calibration kit, looks like the calibration kits are all sold out on the website. Also anyone know the difference between the three options for 1.02C (A ,B, or C)

    First post.

Option A - All Upshift Controls adjusted (for all upshifting on all gears)
Option B- Gears 1-4 upshift adjusted. Gears 5-6 upshift stock
Option C- Gears 2-5 upshift changed. Gear upshift 1-2 stock, 5-6 stock.

Bench flash you send your ECU to him, he flashes it, sends back.

Other method. You do it yourself with a laptop through obd2 port.

So I’ll be without a truck for a while is what you’re saying if I do the bench tune. And not so sure I feel comfortable taking out the ecu, probably just wait and see if they’ll be more calibration kits available. Either that or just get it over with a buy a raptor. NEED POWER!!!

I’d wait until he has kits. Only because of the downtime. Plus say the dealer over flashes it. Then you have to send back. Or you want a different transmission setting. You have to send back.

He said that’s he redoing the way it works before sending out more kits. Right now it’s a pain in the ass to get it done.

Raptors are lame. Don’t get one of those. :)

He should offer an upgrade to the bench tune that you can later buy the USB to obd2 hardware and have access to the newest Software

That's actually a really good idea. It would get ppl on board sooner and allow the flexibility of the full kit later.

Sadly I am experiencing the same issue. While the throttle was very linear and responsive at first.(have about 500 miles)I am finding that it’s shifting early and I am having to press on the skinny pedal a lot to get it to down shift. Have had a few erratic hard downshifts . On the bright side though, it doesn’t feel like it’s missing at low rpm while lugging up a Hill.

Yes, running 102c-a. I’ll try reloading and running through another cycle before moving to another version, as I was satisfied with the performance when loaded.

Absolutely. It made the truck fun to drive... kinda like a normal vehicle.
But then the truck started learning to be stupid again... and it's no longer fun anymore.

I have been following this OV tune and I am discouraged by the people talking about the ECU relearning the old bad habits. Is this not the same reason people have been disconnecting the battery without the tune so as to erase the short term memory ? Can using the S mode (not using D) stop the learning that undoes the new tune ?

I've got 600 miles on 1.02C-A and haven't noticed any negative effects from learning. Mainly rural two lane highway driving with a mix of hilly and flat terrain. Top speed on my commute is typically 65mph and I'm averaging 22mpg.

I am sure the tune is very cool, but if you are not after specific niche performance gains why not just run in ECT mode? The truck does not “unlearn” ECT and I find it resolves the sluggish performance you experience from Toyota deciding to boot up these trucks in “economy mode”.

No offence meant to those engaged in tuning this plant, but I think for your average bear, ECT mode solves the perceived problems, although at the expense of fuel economy.

    Am I missing something?
