My son has a 2016 White Crew Cab and currently lives in Maryland by way of Florida. This will be his first season driving in snow and we are looking to upgrade his wheels and tires. He currently has the truck leveled and would like the biggest tires (aggressive) and wheels (Method) that he can run without any rubbing. Looking for some suggestions on what might work and look best and if anyone is familiar with the Hunt Valley or Owings Mills area in MD some suggestions on where to purchase and install would be great. Thanks in advance and any suggestions regarding offset would be greatly appreciated.

Any particular brand, offset or rating? Also, wheel size?

Coopers seem to be the new cool kid tire. The yokahama geolanders that came on my wifes t4r are like the greatest tire ever in the snow but they look like poo. My MTRs suck in the snow but I didn't buy them for that.

    I prefer 16s.

Just looked online at the BF Goodrich T/A KM2
265/75-16 E tire... Would that work and is that the right size? Do I need to request a particular offset?

Are you buying tires for looks or for performance... there is a big difference man.

I’m looking for safety and he’s 16 so it’s all about looks... Wants an aggressive looking tire and I’m concerned about snow and rubbing.

Cooper ST Maxx - Solid looks (aggressive), well mannered on the highway, and did great for me in the Montana winter last year. However, they are an E-Rated tire (stiff sidewalls & heavy).

Cooper makes well respected tires right now though. They have more road friendly ATs as well.

Depending on what "leveled" means will determine what size tire you can really run.

    I'm running 255/85/16 (33" tall) but I'm lifted 2.5 or 3".

You might want to have him do 265/70 (or 75) /16 for more stock height.

Thanks... Dumb question but are the 75 or 70’s larger? Also, are the KO2 BF good snow tires?

He's 16. Unless he paid for the truck you get to make the call on wheels/tires.

The 16 or 17" TR4 pro wheels are the perfect offset to run 255 80 17 or 255 85 16 tires. No lift, no rub, full 33".

    Tall/narrow better in snow anyway.

Very seldom do best looks equate to best performance. That's why they make a billion tires. Also an E tire loses a few mpg around town. A bigger or wider tire loses mpg.

If it were my son (and we went through this when he was 16 six years ago) you will get a stock size AT tire. Coopers and others are a good compromise tire. The best is a dedicated snow tire but Maryland is not the snow capital of the world. Michelin LTX AT tirs are also excellent in snow but look wimpy. I am getting ready to get another set of Cooper AT3's as they are a great compromise tire. The do good in snow and rain, look pretty good and they won't break the bank. Firestone and Yokahama and Toyo all make a decent AT tire. Good luck.

I think those guys who run the glaciers in Greenland will disagree lol. But ground pressure at speed is important as you need no flotation. Skinny is better at speed.

I like the BFG KO2 a lot for snow and torrential rain. But I don’t drive like a 16yo anymore.

My opinion, 265/75/16 Duratrac or 265/70/17 Duratrac. Same size tire, different size rim. I've run 2 sets of the previous generation BFG's and currently run Duratracs on my wifes 4runner. I'm in North Eastern BC and drive on snow 5 months of the year. It's unreal how many trucks I see running Duratracs up here since they are so good year round. My BFG's were ok in snow, perhaps the new ones are better. That being said I think I'm going to take a chance on the 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx since I just put my lift in today. If they made a Duratrac in that size I'll already have them on order. The tire companies are really missing out mot offering a 33x10.5 with a snowflake.

Go see John at https://www.wheeldealracing.com/ great guy, knows his stuff and will make sure you get what you need and want. He wont sell you anything that is one out of your price range and two, outside of what you are trying to accomplish...I got fuel wheels and Cooper AT tires and am very happy with the set up. He was even willing to negotiate on the price...I live right outside of Ownings Mills (10 miles north and west) and this set up has gotten me through all the MD and WV weather....good luck and please let me know how you made out if you visit him.

I live in Maryland and only about 15 miles from Owings Mills. I am not sure your son will really need anything special for snow around here. We don't get much snow at all, maybe 5-6 days a year and calling for minimal snow this year due to La Niña. Also they clear the roads pretty fast. I would be more concerned with a tire that works well in the rain or slush and I don't really think snow will be a problem as long as he has 4x4. Every few years we'll get a deep snow from a coastal storm but that is very rare. I would suggest he look for something that would work with our minimal snow and still be a good road tire. I don't know of any specific tire places to look but we have all the major tire chains around. If you have any other questions about the area let me know.
