Im a novice also but looks like your wire speed is too slow or you are moving along too fast. Also gauge the metal. It helps to match the dials to your metal thickness. I would rather go a little hotter than not hot enough, but you dont want TOO hot to burn through.

also your wire feed needs to operate smoothly...if its sticky or slipping it will be spotty inconsistent welds. at least on my machine it does that. when the tip starts getting clogged.

I followed the guide on the machine for my wire speed and heat setting. Although there's no dial for heat on this little machine, just 1 & 2; high & low.
I'm sure I was moving too quickly. Gotta get back at it.

it takes practice and realize flux core isnt that pretty anyhow. If you can add gas to it, it cleans up welds. I always try to think of filling in the gaps when Im welding something. If look back at the weld just run the wire feed backwards and fill in the gaps and steady fwd to the end of your line.

The important is to understand just what is happening and what needs to happen .and what you need to do to make it happen

All our eyes are a little different with a low output machine like that I need the autodark hood set as low as it will go.

Make sure your cover plates are clean they get dirty over time .

Set yourself up to be very comfortable

After setting up my new welder(Lincoln 140, .23 wire, 75/25mix) when tacking sheet metal(18G) I have alot of black soot that wipes off easily. Welds look nice, just have to wipe off the soot. Any ideas, bad batch of gas? Thanks

Loose connection in the shielding gas supply.

Base metal contaminated is also possible

I did not make them, they are road cases from Tennessee made for the entertainment industry.

I have purchased stuff from this company, https://www.parts-express.com/cat/c..._Cats_E&utm_group=case-cabinet-hardware_201_E

If you Google road case hardware, lots o pages will pop up.

All our truss is Tom cat, but I am very familiar with showrigg and the owner Eric. The show rigg shop in Vegas is about 20 times bigger then the one in Gardena, I think Eric has 6 buildings now, and is right down the street from my shop. I do some stuff for Eric, but it is mostly smaller one off stuff. They have a big fab shop, but are way more of a production kinda shop. I bet showrigg has over 250 employees at there vegas compound.

We rent stuff from showrigg sometimes, but for the most part, our stuff is fancy corporate events, we need clean new looking clean truss because a lot of it is exposed and visible, and showrigg truss looks like it has been dragged across the highway from Denver to LA. I'm not doing anything at Sema, but I did just send a bunch of stuff out for GM, Acura, Honda and Subaru. I am not a Rigger, I am the fab guy that builds what ever the rigging industry can't get off the shelf. Below are pics of the kind of corporate events I deal with. For the most part it is all large stuff. These pics are a corporate event at the MGM grand arena. Over 400 points, 180,000 lbs hanging from the ceiling. All LED video walls are automated and move up and down and side to side. Actually very complicated set up with a shit ton of coordination to pull it all together. When it was done, everything was removed and out the door in 24 hours. Only 25% of my stuff stays in Vegas, I send stuff all over every week. Problem I have is that it is hard to find skilled labor in Vegas, and I can barely keep up without killing myself.

Aren't you one of the guys that bought gas cylinders from me when I closed my shop in Signal Hill ?

Use the settings as more of a guide line than set-in-stone. Ive definitely found sometimes more "heat" (via the 1-2-3, ect settings) works better or more wire speed (or less) works better than what is suggested.

Ive actually got a notepad I have settings written down on. Even for the same material thickness, i have different settings for different welds. Like for just butt welds might one setting but doing a plug weld one the same material can be a totally different setting.

No closeup shots, but I got the cooking grate built, shelf finished, and handles fabbed up.

    Closing in on it. :D

Right on dude! Thats way cool. Cool that you do this kind of stuff! Yes definitely agree that all of showrigs truss has been beaten on haha. Loaded and unloaded stakebed after stakebed! You do some very nice work man! Cool to know someone who actually builds the stuff that I rig. You have a very critical job making sure that all the Truss is stucturally sound and going to support all the crap we hang off of it so my hat is off to you for doing so!

We just did this little truss rig in a stage where there was no permanent scaffolding so we could hang our entire pipe grid and lighting cables off of.

And I hit you up about your welding table that you had but decided that I didn’t have any room for it in my small garage haha.
