I have a 2017 DCSB OR MT, have for 10 months now with only 5700 miles ( it is my 2nd vehicle, not daily driven)

I've noticed as of lately the clutch is very clicky. After searching on the threads it seems it's the master cylinder ? Will Toyota cover this under warranty? I just went in for my 5k maintenance and of course it wasn't happening.

Is this happening due to sitting and not being driven daily?

    Thanks

Is the "click" only happening when you step on the pedal to disengage the clutch?

Does it sound like a creaking old barn door?

You can lube the pivot points on the pedal assembly with disc brake grease and that will solve the barn door sound which has been a common issue for years.

So it's a common issue and not to worry about? The sound doesn't really bother me I just want to make sure I'm not damaging it anymore by driving on it

Yes, the creaking barn door sound goes back to the beginning of the 2nd Gens.

No. If you hear a clicking upon initial actuation then it's the free play adjustment. Take it to the dealer and it takes about 10 minutes for a tech to adjust and get rid of the click. No big deal. Mine did it and I got it taken care of.

Your dealer is better than mine lol. They told me with a straight face that there was no adjustment. So I opened up the trusty service manual pdf and did it myself. Push rod free play was way off.

Do you, by chance, have a link to the trusty service manual pdf? :-D

    Now, follow the whole procedure.

If you're unsure or are not particularly mechanically inclined, don't try it. You could totally fuck up your clutch disk/flywheel if you "lenghten" the pushrod too much. There, you've been warned!

I went ahead and did it myself because I refused to accept the dealership's lazy half-assed attitude toward something this simple. And oh yeah, I can turn a wrench.

    No, I don't remember the page #

I had the exact same problem. It would be worse sometimes than others, and then one day it just basically let go and the pedal was wobbling all over the place.

They replaced the pedal pivot bushings on mine. I tried to lubricate it and it didn't last.

When I saw the old pivots they were installed dry, and by 15k miles it was completely chewed through. Installed the new ones with plenty of lube, no problems yet!

Just had my master and pedal assembly replaced on Saturday (5,500 miles). Time will tell but the pedal felt so much better right off the bat. They also stated they used part of a Gen 2 fix and used "body grease" on all contact points and bushings.

Mine was catchy. That's the best way I can describe it. While slowly letting off of the clutch the movement wasn't fluid. It was binding slightly.

I used brake grease on the pivot points. It didn't help. I then applied a bunch of grease to the return spring. That solved the issue. You have to be a contortionist to see and reach that spring, but don't forget to lube it up too.

@newtacomawoo , if you haven't guessed by now the click and the creak/groan/squeak are two different things. You can get rid of the barn door creak and still have the click (the opposite is also true). As noted above, the dealer CAN fix all of this.

    Cheers

Great, I have the click as well. I'll mention it to my SA when I take the truck in for 10k in the next few weeks

Make sure to tell your service advisor you think it's the free play adjustment. Some dealers sell so few manual transmission trucks they aren't aware of this adjustment. They should, but I'll give them a pass. My dealer sells over 400 Tacomas a year and so far this year they have sold 11 manuals...

Good luck, I was having an issue at 4k miles and finally got them to replace it at 16k miles. Now it is making noise again after 1k miles:(

Are you referring to the clicking noise that is described in this post or the "creaky old barn door" noise? The creak can be fixed by using disc brake grease, and the clicking noise, from what i gathered today is due to play in the clutch.
