Very interesting.. yeah ive been wanting to test drive the new 6 speed. Ive read that its alot smoother than the ones in the gen 2's. Im not sure if id ever go 3rd gen though.. i love my 6spd/4.0 combo. Its pretty fun to row through those gears and have instant power/torque without having to get on it much. i also read a thread yesterday that mentioned the 4cyl/5spd combo is no longer being offered and that the 4 banger is going to have a 6spd manual behind it now. I feel like that would be a sweet combo too

'21 Nothing so far, I just bought the friggin thing!! '09 Silver SR5 Prerunner DCSB (sold) Dick Cepek rims, 33” Cooper AT 3’s, 24 in light bar, custom-made hitch step, sport headlights (on SR5 taco), Gator tonneau cover (looking for Best Top soft camper shell), real tree seat covers, weather tech floor liners, 6’ bed mat cut to 5’ (because the 6’ ones were the only ones available, alpine touch screen head unit, alpine 1100w amp powering 2 10” subs, upgraded door speakers (forgotten the brand), Magnaflow exhaust
Yeah. I love the new body one the 3rd gens but I was just looking at some different pictures on here and saw a 2015 with the new style grill and it looked really clean. I agree that the instant power of the 4.0 is really nice and to quote Tommy Ivo (60’s rail dragster driver) “ their ain’t no replacement for displacement” not to mention they are much cheaper to get with extremely low miles over the 3rd gens

I was looking closer at your pickuers and realized you done have the new style tail light that started in ‘09 on your ‘09 is that just because it’s a bace model because my SR5 has them

Yeah when i got the truck it had the newer led's that came on the 09s but i wasnt a fan so i swapped them out for the older style red ones! I think between 09-11 all of the tacos came with the led style and then starting 2012-2015 the base model trucks came with the red style and the upper trim level trucks came with the leds.

Ok that makes sense because my neighbor has a bad ass green base model 2013 that has solid red tail lights. The only thing I like more about the newer style is that in a row of tacos it makes the back feel more updated to me but if I had to replace them I’d go with the old style ones or just go after market

Yeah i agree completely about how it makes the back look more updated, im just not a big fan of all the chrome in them. I always wanted a set that were led but had red inside the housings instead of all the chrome

I’ve never seen any like that but I have see some that have black tinted chrome, but if you aren’t going for a black on green than it wouldn’t really work too well. Also for me in Cali it’s illegal to have black tinted taillights to it’s ruled out for me too.

Yeah ive never been too big of a fan of black headlights/tail lights on a green truck, but i can understand why some folks like em. I didnt realize that was illegal out in california.. but then again, theyve got all kinds of weird rules out there lol.. ive seen a set that have the red inside but they looked more maroon to me than red.. i may end up having to make my own. Wish it was as easy to make custom tails as it is for headlights. Ill have to practice with my dremel i guess before i take it to an expensive pair of oem tails

That’s why I call it Comifornia ... and it could have been the picture of the tail lights, and you might be able to buy a red twilight tint and you could just wrap the OEM trilogy in that. But I don’t know how well it would hold up in the weather.

    @hoverlover

Interesting regarding the feel of the 3rd gen with the manual.. any info on how the feel of the new 6spd compares to that of the gen 2s?

And ive never driven a supercharged 4 banger but i also think it would be a good balance of decent mileage while also having that extra power when needed on the highway/trails. Not sure what happened to your post! I was about to reply and it seemed like it disappeared on me..

Lol id hate to deal with all the strange rules they have out there and trying to get my truck smogged. I feel like thatd be a real pita..

Yeah it very well could have been. I might have to look into this eventually. Im really particular about how things look so i might just try to build my own so if i screw it up i know its on me

Yeah I want to get the hell out of CA but all my family is here so that puts a damper on thing.

That why I am always hesitant to buy aftermarket replacement lights. Especially because when my older brother had the truck he bought some really expensive headlights for the truck and the fulled up with water after 2 months of them being on the truck.

Yeah ive seen this happen quite a bit, but it seems like it can be prevented if you take them apart and seal them up with some silicone or rtv. Its a shame that aftermarket headlight manufacturers are selling garbage from the get go though..
i commend you for your loyalty lol thats true dedication. Im from houston originally, but live west of San antonio now, so ive always been an astros fan even when they sucked the big ones a few years ago.. i can definitely relate there :D

Haha yea, I had been drinking a lil bit of tequila when I posted :drunk:. I thought it would be a good idea reread everything the conversation to make sure I didn’t post up something that didn’t follow or turned out to be nonsensical but it seems it would have been fine.

    Here's the original

The other day I took my wife's car in for some scheduled maintenance and the dealer had a third gen with a manual transmission that someone had custom ordered sitting out front. It was also a TRD off-road so I figured it'd be a really good comparison. We took it for a test drive. The manual transmission and the clutch felt pretty good, shifting was easy and the clutch was predictable but the engine felt anemic compared to the 4.0. Definitely less low end grunt than I'm used to. While the truck did feel a bit more snappy, it wasn't much more so than mine and I'm carrying around a fair bit of extra steel. The truck wasn't broken in, it had like 4 miles total and it was someone else's custom order, so I didn't romp on it any... As much as I wanted to do it.

Have any of you guys driven a supercharged 4-banger? I've seen a few in person and I know there are a few guys on TW with them but I haven't stalked their pages enough... Yet. I feel like that would be an excellent combination of performance on the road and off road assuming it wasn't too loaded down..

No worries man lol! we've all been there! Whenever I first read it, it seemed like you typed everything out better than most folks on here do when they're sober, so kudos to you for that:p

Thanks for the feedback on the new six speed. I've been curious about them, especially since it took me 2-3 months to get used to the clutch release point and smooth shifting when I first picked up mine. I blame much of this on switching between my 5spd and 6spd regularly though, so I never really could get the two straight. The 5spd is definitely much easier to drive though relative to the 6. Love them both though!:D

I’ve never driven a boasted 4 but I have driven a two boasted 6ers one was supercharged and the other has a turbo. The major difference was the low end torque form the supercharged truck, by other than that they were pretty evenly matched.
