What's the chatter on the 2018's?

Totally agree as we are all built differently and sized differently. Cars have had manual height and other adjustments forever, so not new tech and doesn't have to be power. Heck my wife's fj has manual crank handle to raise and lower seat. And has lumbar adjustment. I've had back surgery and being able to adjust seat really improves my long term comfort in a seat

 

The lack of seat height adjustability has been something Toyota should have addressed since the 2005's came out.

 

And especially since it exists in their other vehicles

 

Like the Toyota Yaris. And every other Toyota offered for sale.

 

Makes you wonder if any of those other Toyota models have cross compatible parts to mod your Tacoma seats with?

 

I sat in the Honda Civic Type R. Fantastic seats. No power but has manual adjustments.

 

Before Ford gave up on the Ranger and let it stagnate it outsold the Tacoma. We will see what happens when the new Ranger comes.

 

Why all the TSS hate? I like the BSM and rear park assist, so I'm inclined to believe I'd like the rest of the new TSS tech.

Even though they themselves are a bunch of poseurs with their RTT, who "off road to Patagonia" daily, while really they are at the mall.

 

Better tell Ford, GM, Dodge, Nissan they don't understand either. Those clowns keep putting 4 wheel disc brakes on trucks!

 

Great news! Heard from my dealer today that my build date has moved from the 11/17 to 11/13. He said I can expect the truck to arrive around Thanksgiving.

 

IDGAF either way, but I'll add fuel to the fire. The Wrangler has 4 wheel disk brakes and is the most trail ready of any mass produced vehicle on the market.

 

Because everyone is smarter and faster.

I bet they don’t wear those intrusive seatbelts either.

 

Maybe add Toyota to that list - the Tundra has 4 wheel disc brake too.

 

IMO the only downside to drum rear brakes is if *you* have to replace the shoes. I sure hope it is better than it was on old cars, but I'll pay someone to replace them when the time comes.

 

For reference, I am NOT a mechanic. I am hjowever a guy that likes to do his own maintenance when possible.

I personally did brakes for both axels on my 1st gen. Replaced the front discs (warped) and pads as well as the rear drums, adjusters and shoes.

The only problem I had with the rears,was the auto adjusters. The adjusters were the only reason I even opened the back up. I started on the drivers side and spent prbably 45-60 minutes from wheel off to wheel on. More than 1/2 that time was spent trying to figure out how to put the new adjusters on that were a completely different configuration than the stocks and came with no instructions. The passenger side too less than 20 minutes. Remember this was new adjusters, shoes and drums; of course I also did the obligitory cleaning and lubricating while I had the drums off.

Front axel took me about 7-10 minutes a side including disc replacement.

My point. While shoes on drums may be a bit more work to replace than pads for discs if you are only replacing the shoes it should at most 2x the time investment and no special tools are required. For that additional time you get a lot longer life from the brake material, I am not sure I have seen anyone argue the opposite.

Are disc better than drums? That is debated almost continuosly here. Just pointing out that the maintenance it NOT a great deal more complex than that of the discs and IS less frequent.
