I'm not sure if I want to smoke or deep fry the turkey this year. Might do a roasted breast, a smoked breast and deep fry a whole bird. Wife prefers the roasted one for sammiches and I like the fried and smoked ones lol. TOO many good things to choose from.

Using the turkey carcass for broth that you then use for gumbo...:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The flavor that the broth takes on from the deep frying makes the best gumbo, IMHO anyway.

We'll be doing both a fried and a smoked one again this year for our meal. They are so cheap at the grocery store around Thanksgiving and cooking them is fun enough that I don't even care if it is too much meat.

I'm taking over the turkey frying from a family friend this year, too. A group of us guys used to go to a buddy's house in the morning, turkeys in hand. He'd prep the birds and fry them for us while we raided his liquor cabinet and kegerator, then shot the shit. All of us pitched in for a couple of bottles of good booze as payment. When your turkey was done, you packed up, wished everyone else a Happy Thanksgiving, then headed home with a fantastic fried bird. This year, that is taking place at my house. Simple creole butter injection, Tony Chachere seasoning, and a bath in some hot peanut oil. I'll have a wicked Bloody Mary bar set up for drinks.

    Should be a good time!

Ya I do a nice butter injection on mine before it gets fried. I did them fried for years then a few years back did my smoked one. Was really good, like I said will probably end up with a couple breasts one for roasting, one for smoking then the big bird will get fried. Need to get a new fryer we gave away our good one when we moved out of state. Was a nice heavy duty one.

Chipotle-making time. This is mostly jalapenos with a few random peppers leftover from the garden. I was trying to hold out for all of them to turn red, but there was a freeze last night and the plants are wilting.

The setup for 2 racks on my kettle is an upside down one from my wsm on top of the regular one. There's a handful of lit charcoal with a big pile of pecan chunks on top of it for smoke.

So yea a local hardware is closing and they have a weber 26. Original price $299. Worker said she’ll discount it to $220 plus tax. It’s a display, no box, ash catcher kinda off center. Anyway she said that’s the best she can do.

    Yay or nay ?

    Nah.

Where is this located? Asking for a friend :anonymous:

J/k I'd do it but I'm also actively looking to get a bigger bbq and that one would be sweet.

hmmmm... I would wait until right before they close the doors for good and see if it's still there, and if it is, offer them 125. They'd probably go 150 if they had to just get out of there. If it's gone by the time they close, then I wouldn't sweat it because 220 is not that great a deal.

Edit: BUT if you need one of these, then go for it. A shiny new thing that can double as a good smoker, hard to resist if the need is there.

Agreed, and my edit was just in case he NEEDS one now. 220 is definitely not a good enough deal to "just because" or flip it.
