The answer was the new Hawk rotors and pads kit. The truck is as smooth as butter now......boom

JMO, but one shouldn’t need to buy specialty pads/rotors to have smooth braking.

Added cost. Maybe it’s worth it if there is noticeable difference in braking power. Subjective I guess.

LOL...correct, just need rotors that are not warped. IMHO factory rotors are crap so why would I buy oem rotors that warp at 50k miles or less....again.

Had the same issue as you when braking (especially downhill). Swapped the pads/rotors and the issue was gone. Glad it worked for you.

Myself and a lot of others on here would disagree with your assessment of OEM pads/rotors. Lots of us got well over 100,000 miles on ours....wondering if your driving habits could be a factor?

LMFAO....at 54 I am never in a hurry nor do I do any hard braking. It's a truck, not a race car. Furthermore, I would submit that oem rotors are probably nowhere close to uniform from a quality control perspective over time. I may have just gotten a crap set. Anyone that thinks Toyota parts are the same quality as they were 20 years ago is fooling themselves!

PS - I have an M3 for my twisty jollies and my SCCA Nissan never had warped rotors running around Sebring & Daytona and I was hard on them back in the day....
A final thought...this is my 3rd 4x4 Taco...95, 98, 2013...98 had 120k or so and not so much of a hint of a warped rotor on either of the 2 90's models. 2013 quality maybe?

just wanted to throw in my .02 my truck had very bad wobble at 50-70 for a while when i bought it (used). i thought something was really messed up in the steering but couldn't find it. finally had to replace the rotors/calipers/pads because the previous owner tried to diy it and failed resulting in broken boot/seized piston in the left front caliper which, in turn, ruined the rest of the brakes. swapped everything out and the steering wobble was gone. these trucks are VERY sensitive to rotor imperfections. i almost wet myself when i was bedding the pads and noticed my steering wobble was completely cured.
