I just ceramic coated mines the other weekend. Set me back about $75.00. BUT, it was a lot of prep work for me to get there. That's where most of the money goes if you have someone do it. It's best if you do this to a brand new vehicle.

No, it's not a gimmick. It's a semi-permanent coating which lasts anywhere from 2 to 5 years, depending on the coating. Mines will likely last 2 to 3 years, then a buff off and reapply.

Washing, yes. Waxing or polishing, nope.

Water beads like nothing I've seen before in waxes or coatings. FWIW, I used Cquartz. Lots of people are getting this done (professionally) around here and decided to research and attempt this myself.

It's a tough coating. You can take it off, but it takes some work.

I've had mines for about 3 weeks now and haven't washed it yet. Still beads crazy. There's coatings to apply to help the sealing. I've been told every other wash you can do that. Spray on and wipe off deal. Nothing too time consuming.

I would definitely recommend looking into it. If anything, it helps fend off minor scratches and protects the paint.

The key to a good coating is how they prep "decontaminate" the surface before applying it. This part is really no different than any other detail. They clay the entire car, machine compound out any imperfections, foam spray it with Iron-X and then apply the coating. It's a decent amount of labor. If you paid $350 to perform the same level of prep for a wax/sealer application and it lasts maybe 6 months, the economics of the coating are actually better because it lasts 3-5 years depending on the coating you use. The other plus is that you won't be compounding your clear coat every 12 months. If you paid $350/year to detail your car, your spending the same or more as you would to coat it, and you only have to do it once when coating over the same period. I had my Camaro coated which is black and not only does it look amazing, but it is very easy to clean and this stuff really does repel for 3-5 years. Towel dries in minutes or use a leaf blower. Apply a quick detailer to the drying cloth on the second pass and you can't beat it.

Better than if it wasn't coated but the sticks would probably win. You need Xpel PPF for that.

The Gyeon coating is supposedly a DIY and doesn’t cost anywhere near what OP paid. Google it.

With that said, all the paint correction and Claying and etc needs to be done prior to ceramic coating, so that’s a huge chunk of the $1k plus pricing models, not to mention size of doing a whole Tacoma.

i've been very happy with Gyeon Mohs coating on mine and the vehicles i've installed it on. Great product but i do not recommend rookies installing it. Its not a "armor all" special like most here.

I have been more than satisfied with Gyeon products, despite the cost of the products.. They are well worth it. Plus their line up of products are easy to understand and makes sense that they work together. Amen to installing it, didn't wanna cough up the money to have it professionally applied and told myself screw it, I'll try it out and figured it'd be easy. This thing was a pain to apply and making sure I caught every spot where it flashed was interesting. Had to bring in another set of eyes to double check my work haha.

Just imagine if some of these members have seen some of Obsessed Garage content / posts.... :bananadead:

I don't think there is anything to believe or not believe. It is what it is. You may not see value in it, but it definitely does what people are saying it does.
