    I have had different experiences.

I applied Jet Seal in April. Water still beads on my hood. I was going to reapply before winter but I’ve decided to see how long it lasts and wait till my spring detail.

Now you do have to maintain a sealant. It needs to be applied to a clayed surface, maintained with pH balanced soaps, and you can’t be aggressive with washes. You will scrub the sealer off.
The only places I have had to reapply the sealer have been my front bumper and headlights. Scrubbing the bugs off over the summer kind of wore the sealer off but that is to be expected.

    I dig the stuff.

If your sealers come off that easy you aren’t maintaining them.
An auto wash or non pH balanced soap will strip them in a heartbeat.

You can also clear bra the truck and not worry about scratching the paint at all.

I think light surface scratching may only scratch the coating and not the clearcoat.
I was out exploring yesterday and had quite a few keawe branches (thorny trees) brush up against my paint. So far I haven't noticed any scratches, but the branches were more new shoots and if anything light brush.

I put two layers of the ceramic coating on. I had made an error on my tailgate with the application and redid it. It was quite hard to take off by hand and tougher than I thought. It's not going to protect from dents or all scratches. My truck is Blue Ribbon Metallic and I just want to make sure I'm taking care of my higher maintenance paint.

So far I think the coating is a good investment of time and money I (and others) put in. With our Hawaii weather, including the rain, sun, salt, and vog (contributes to acid rain), I wanted to try something different, hopefully better, and less maintenance. I actually like it when it rains now so I can awe at the beading.

Sounds about right. With a username like Pigpen I would expect nothing less than that sort of work to be done after the OE paint fails.

No money, all went to truck...
Been using ceramic on 3 cars in the family. I apply myself, lots of prep work, takes me about a day to complete whole process. The actual coating costs ~$80 for the kit. I wash well, clay, polish then apply the coating. Suppose to last 2-3 years. So far my wife's car is one year out and water still beads pretty well. So for a year+ of solid coating, totally worth it.

I never used a clay bar before waxing until a few years ago and never marred my paint. I am also lucky that my waxing lasted 6 months plus. Also, waxing is not labor intensive.

There is science behind ceramic coatings but you don't have to have a high IQ or super secret tools to apply it. It's a process you can learn and do yourself.

It's a labor of love for some folks whether you laugh at us who use wax or invest 1k into the next best thing.

I hear ya. I would do it myself but don't have the time. I used to enjoy detailing my car, and now I rush through it.
