Only owned manual trans yotas and this is my fourth one.

On price, contact a few other dealers, also plug in all the info into nada.com and get invoice pricing. I targeted that price and was happy with my deal. Go drive, talk price a little, then walk away, no matter what they offer. Take a day or so, but make sure they have a phone number. Ask for offers in writing, and you need to work out what the out Door price is.

On the v6 models, the AT is very 'fuel economy' minded. IF you hated the CVT in your 'ru you'll hat that transmission more. On the 4cyl I think the transmission programming is a bit more conventional, but power application probably won't be to your liking if you are already looking an manuals.

ok i need to go test drive one.

any idea when the 2017's will be made until b/c i think i really want a MT.

i also need to work on the finance aspect. see if i can talk them down as low as possible (any guidelines as to what territory is "good" pricing - i am in NY if it matters but can travel to NJ, CT, PA easily).

lastly, i need to see what i can get for the Forester. it's a 2017 Premium trim with Eyesight. KBB says $20-23K depending on trade vs. private party and condition, etc.

this seems like an awful financial decision, but eh.

Depending on your state tax laws, you'll likely only pay tax on the difference between trade and the new truck. For example, if you get $20k on trade-in and the new vehicle is $25k, you only pay tax on $5k. Again, this depends on your state... Not all do it this way.

You got a trade. Try to work out best deal with the dealer. I downgrade from v6 limited venza to 4 cyl dcsb Sr with no regret. Try to test drive, I found that tacoma seat actually feel comfortable than my old venza.

Don't buy a Tacoma you might be unhappy with just to get out of the Subaru. Look at it with a fresh set of eyes when you make a trip to the dealer.

Have you considered selling your vehicle? I never trade anymore and net well above the offset in taxes.

Yes, but the debate on this thread is if Toyota is offering a 6sp 2.7l. Their official documents indicate this....

    Toyota press releases. http://pressroom.toyota.com/
Type in Tacoma in the search box on the top - the document is titled "2018 Toyota Tacoma Product Info" from October 25, 2017.

The document indicates on several pages that 6sp manual on the 4x4 2.7l. Even gives mpg at 17/21/18 (6-speed manual 4x4)!

I'm fairly certain they already stopped making the 17's. There were only 3 in CA with the options I wanted (4x4 DC MT P&T). If your sure you want to do it, do it quickly.

The seats in my off-road are way more comfortable then the ones in the sr5 I test drove.

Yup, they are different seats. Have been that way since the 2nd gen at least.

I recommend what I bought, a 17 DCSB TRDOR, AT, 4x4, coming off a 05 DCSB TRDOR MT 4x4. Both trucks have been the best vehicles I have ever owned, and I adore my 17. My only regret was not springing for the tech package with the moonroof. 16k miles since I bought it with no issues or regrets. If you want a taco, get one, you have to decide for yourself what package works best for you. I love the versatility of the TRDOR and upgraded interior options. They also tend to command a higher price when it comes time to move on. Either way, lets see pics of what you choose!

May have been more comfortable because of the fabric, but all 3rd gen seats are the same seats.

As someone who went the other way: 2016 Tacoma OR to 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5l Limited...

If you didn't like the CVT, you are going to HATE the Tacomas disaster transmission.

The CVT in my new OB, it's smooth and predictable. It's fantastic. The Tacoma is clunky, harsh, shift happy and annoying.

You'll be going backwards in almost every category imo. The Tacoma, while recently updated, doesn't really hold a candle to the way this Subaru is put together and the tech it has.
