Not "for sure", but my info says yes, in DC. Not an option for AC.

Same here. The wife’s Outback with eyesight has been really amazing and I want my truck to have the same. Especially with teenage drivers.

We had blind spot monitors in her ‘13 Rav-4 as part of some package on the one we were looking at. We grew accustomed to them so when we got her sienna, it was something we really wanted (and seemed to make more sense in a larger vehicle). The sienna also has backup sensors with the BSM but that’s really it. No lane departure or adaptive cruise / emergency braking. She wouldn’t let me get a higher trim package at the time but I’ve since talked her into it for the next sienna or whatever —hopefully not for at least 4 more years.

I’m excited to try the TSS features in the Tacoma. I hope they hit the lots soon.

Just because the Smiths, Jones, Millers and Bakers all have a BBQ with a built in igniter, warming plate, thermometer, and AM/FM stereo on it in their backyard, does not make it grill any better than the ones that don't.

Disc brakes are better for the front wheels because they cool faster and do stop better than drums.

Nobody us disputing this fact. The NEED for discs on the rear isn't as necessary on a small truck, let alone a big truck. The greater part of your stopping power is at the front wheels due the physics involved.

Confounding why all of these manufacturers use discs on the rear...I'm at a loss

Might be cheaper for them to manufacture?? Churning out 2 completely different items (drums and discs) vs churning out different sizes of the same basic design...just a wild guess on my part

I would think its the opposite, I think Toyota cheaps out by using the same drums that they have used on the tacoma for nearly 20 years. Just to pinch a few pennies

I remember when I used to check this post for the "chatter" on the 2018's. I feel like the last 10 pages are nothing but complaints on the drum brakes and TSS.

For the record, I currently own a 2013 FR-S and a 2016 Jeep Renegade. I've owned over a dozen cars, from eco boxes like Dodge Neons and VW Beetles, to performance cars like MR2 Turbos and Mazdaspeed3's, and even minivans for work. They all have flaws and things I could complain about, but while I own them, I embrace them (except my 2015 Focus ST... POS lemon ;)). This is a forum for Tacoma enthusiast, so maybe we can focus on the overall package instead of a detail or two we don't like.

Honestly, when I see people complain about a detail like drum brakes on a small truck that doesn't really need anything more, it's rather annoying. I just want to know when my 2018 is going to be allocated!

While we are waiting for Toyota to give up the full details on the 2018 Tacomas, let me throw this out there.

If you currently own a Tacoma of any generation, do you honestly feel that the rear drums were inadequate for stopping your truck in any way?

If a 2018 will be your first Tacoma ever, please go test drive a 2017 and report back here how inadequate the drums performed.

    Seriously!!!

Don't forget to wear your safety glasses, life preserver, a helmet and a jock cup just because they are all protective equipment that save your bits, and you NEED them!

"With Colorado sales hot and competition about to heat up, Chevy has reason to invest in the platform. After three years on the market, and an impressive quarter of a million in sales, the Colorado now commands 28-percent of the midsize truck market and Chevy isn’t slowing down anytime soon."

    http://www.fourwheeler.com/features...akes-fast-friends-with-chevrolet-performance/

I want Toyota to realize that big money is moving and that the Tacoma needs to do more... With the return of the Ranger coming soon, Toyota better have an answer in the form of a better power train. Comparing the third gen to the second gen, the performance is marginally better and the fuel economy is pretty much the same. They had a decade to come up with something! And they keep advertising the new, amazing Atkinson cycle engine... Come on, this is getting ridiculous. Give us better power or better fuel economy, don't crap the bed on both...

Nice try!! Could not agree more. Plenty of other threads for bitching; was hopeful this one was for finding legitimate info on the 2018 Tacoma.

All of these manufacturers are also using more and more plastic for bumpers too. Must be better!! I demand plastic bumpers on the 2018 Tacoma or I'm outta here!!

    Bingo!!

Actually someone posted the Tundra has disc rears so that should say Tacoma cheaps out. Specs show Tundra has 4 wheel disc breaks. Any reasonable person would ask why doesn't Tacoma have 4 disc brakes too.
Although the performance is not much different between the two systems anymore, it is more of a perception. People that spend $30-40K on a new Tacoma truck and see it comes with rear drum breaks, while all other mid size trucks and even Tundra come with disc rears ..... clearly just a perception thing. The bean counters come out with an excuse for drum brake use (applies to Tacoma only and not Tundra), engineers need support those marching orders and come up with reasons if they want to collect a paycheck. Then we have owners that agree with anything the Toyota Tacoma bean counters say and drink the kool-aid. You know, people that post that "you do not understand brakes have no clue" while questioning Tacoma rear drums (even though the Tundra line has rear disc). hmmm, is't that odd - so per these Tacoma kool-aid drinkers Tacoma knows brakes, but Tundra doesn't? or?

Tacoma is a very nice truck and holds it value well. Tacoma comes with rear drum brakes and it is what it is. Tacoma sells very well so I suppose they can get away with being the only mid size truck that still uses drum brakes. And yeah, 2019 with other mid size trucks hitting the market with the new Frontier and Ranger it will take away from Tacoma sales ....... enough for Tacoma to stop pinching pennies on certain things, who knows.
Remember, it is not really a performance thing, just more of a perception thing.

ok, now back to other 2018 Tacoma changes ...............
