    12' trd offroad access cab
Hi, I'm Dave and I drive a stock 12' trd offroad access cab with a fiberglass cap. Love the truck. It has 148K on it right now.
So I have a couple options that I have been thinking about,
I'm a carpenter and use this truck for everything, it hauls a lot of stuff around . I already asked about beefing up my suspension and got the info I needed off the helpful members here.
I'm thinking about 1- buying a used utility van to take over the job related mileage/abuse and keeping the tacoma to modify for adventure , travel, and off road.

or option 2- do the suspension mod and live with the truck for 2 more years mabe 3, then trade it in and start modifying a new truck with low miles, then save up for a used work van.

Do you guys think its wise to plan on keeping/modifying a truck with 150k on it? To drive long distances for trips? Or start fresh in a couple years?
    Thanks

    I vote option 1

Go to thread tools in the top right corner and add a poll. We love polls and it's easier to keep track when the replies start to add up.

If you go with option 2, you'll be stuck with a fugly turd gen in a couple years.

I read in your other thread about you hauling a chop saw, compresor, and all kinds of other stuff for work and then camping stuff for pleasure. Sounds like you are spending too much of your life unloading and loading your truck. Assuming you have room to park another vehicle, a van for work, makes much more sense. Here's some of the advantages. You can haul around much more tools and supplies and access them easier making your job more efficient. You can take all of the expenses of the van as a tax writeoff. You don't have to unload and load stuff just for a 1 day pleasure trip. You can put your company name on the van for advertising. When you need to do maintenance on the van, you can use your truck as a back up vehicle. As opposed to doing maintenance on your Taco and not being able to get to the job site.

thanks for the feedback everyone. So , to be clear, I see a van in my future in either situation because of all of the points that Muddinfun has already mentioned, just with the first option it will happen faster by a few years. I guess what I'm stuck on is the milage of my current ride, from the way everyone has mostly replied, I guess folks don't think that starting to modify a truck with 150k is a big deal.

150k is just warming up. You'll be putting miles on the Taco at a much much slower pace once you have the van. I use my Taco as a work truck with my tree service and it's my DD. The loading/ unloading is a pain in the dick - and I'm a very small operation (by design). I recently accepted a different gig so the tree thing is basically a side business now. I love when I can do fun things with the Taco and not have to empty all of the work shit out before loading in the recreation gear.

150k isn’t a big deal, you'll enjoy putting miles on it when you want to, instead of needing to use it daily.

Option 1. Get a sprinter van. Can haul a lot more, they come in 4x4 and get 25 mpg. My buddy has one and it makes work trucks obsolete. Plus you can sleep inside, haul 3 motorcycles , tractors , and snowmobiles. And they are reliable.

Edit: I have to change my vote to option 1 because I’m an idiot and can’t read.

yeah, I'm leaning towards option 1 as well. thanks for the replies everyone. I actually proposed the plan to the wife yesterday and it seemed to go over fairly well (buying a van) She hasn't seen the price tag on those sprinter vans yet though!

Get the Van. let it take the beating, and make full use of the tax benefits.
