Transporting guns

I like that idea a lot. seems solid can could be reached easily.

I've been considering this especially for my AR pistol and smaller rifles like my .35 Remington. How does it hold up to larger/heavier guns? How difficult was the install?

The one concern I have with that set up is I feel like it won't hold the guns as securely as I want them to be. Then again, for $20 is probably tough to beat.

 

Does that just clamp onto the headrest area and the bottom of the seat?

 

I've got a Big Sky that I used in my '04 and I keep meaning to install it in my DC. I'm probably going to get some 6000-series aluminum plate (3/16, maybe 1/8) and figure out a set of mounting brackets to go between the headliner and the Oh Shit handles. I just need to find the time...

 

If you do take some pictures while installing. I'm thinking this is the route I'll go with my DC.

 

Got something real similiar from Bass Pro Shops for $14.95 on sale at the end of one hunting season. They work great and provide easy in and out with very little adjusting. Rifle and shotgun both fit.

 

Its illegal to shoot from a moving vehicle.

Not sure why you would have loaded gun in the cab.

All my gear stays cased in the bed of the truck (I have my topper up during hunting season).

 

Not sure what that has to do with transporting guns.

Just put it in its case in the bed of the truck. With a bed mat it doesn’t roll around unless you are off the road.

You don’t need easy access to a loaded weapon in the cab.

 

That might be true where you live. Up here it's legal to shoot game just off the side of the road. I've had a loaded rifle sitting in front of the passenger seat before for that reason.

 

I don't think anyone said anything about shooting from a moving vehicle... The purpose of the tread was to find out how people store rifles/shotguns in the cab for transportation.

Having a CHP is a perfectly good reason to have a loaded pistol in the truck.

Not sure why just having it sitting on the back seat in a case isn’t an easy solution.

OP talked about while hunting. It wasn’t a generic transport question.

 

This has worked for me on numerous hunts all across the southwest. Rough trails and miles of dirt roads and highways. It gets your guns off the floor, out of the seat, and they don't slip around banging into shit. Cannot recommend highly enough.

 

CHP = concealed handlers permit.
He never said anything about a loaded long gun. Just easy access. Mine sits on the passenger side of the tranny tunnel with the drop mag next to it ready to throw in and chamber a round. Disabled hunters in my state are allowed to have a loaded long gun and shoot from the vehicle. Loaded pistol? Everytime.

 

Sure thing. I have a few different ideas, I just need to see which ones won't interfere with the kids using the handles, and maybe making it quick-release.

Hunting/transport/ having easy access to it when needed was the point of this thread. I run into a lot of coyotes on the farm and was just looking for what other people might use/do for transport without having a long gun in the front seat getting banged around.

I would just throw it in the center console. That's what I do with mine.

 

It's legal to shoot just off the road on public land here. I travel with a loaded rifle a good portion of the year. The magazine is loaded, but there isn't one in the pipe. If I see a game animal, I pull over and park the truck. I grab the rifle and stalk the animal. I've put a lot of meat in the freezer this way.

Please don't make assumptions about other people and the laws in different areas.
