w59 tranny looking for help!

Hi guys,

I'm new here so I hope asking "how tos" is cool here.

I JUST bought a 96 tacoma 2WD, and the clutch went out on me. Started to pull the transmission to replace the clutch and couldn't get the darned thing (tranny) off. Then I read online that you have to remove it with the engine just to replace the clutch! I hope this isn't true. Any one have any advice, help, input? Much appreciated! -Paul

 

Well I have never seen any one remove the motor just for a CLutch Job.

But there are many bolts around the Transmission houseing Plus the Shifter.
The top 2 bolts are the hardess to see. I use a 3 foot extrension and a swivle to ge them off.

You also have the Drive shaft off as well i hope.

 

Yeah, thanks. Man those bolts are hard to see. I WAS able to get the tranny off without pulling the engine, but believe me it wasn't easy. Chilton's insisted it need to happen (i suppose it's because the cross member is welded rather than bolted onto the 2-wheel drive)
