Premium Audio Upgrade for less than $250

Did anyone have issues connecting the negative spade connectors? Only 1 of my speakers were fully seated, the other 3 are barely on. I used a good amount of pressure trying to get them to slip on all the way with no success. The positive spade connectors slid on rather easily.

 

so glad I found this thread - installed the tweeters and the rear door speakers on Saturday afternoon, didn't get around to doing the front doors yet. It does sound noticeably better, but I will be happy to hear it with the fronts installed.

Only issue is that my bluetooth seems extra quiet - volume turned all the way up on iphone8, all of the volume limits and EQ is turned off and I can still turn it up to like 60 and it's just not that loud. If I were to switch over to XM or radio it would blow my eardrums out at that volume, so it only seems to be with bluetooth. Anyone else have this problem? I don't remember this happening with my iphone 5 I just replaced, I might have to fire it up and compare.

 

YES! They were a real biatch to get on... I tried to loosen the connector terminals a bit thinking maybe they were clamped down too much and that made it worse - I took a needlenose pliers and kind of flattened it out a little more and for some reason it worked... it was frustrating me to the point I was about to hardwire them in.

 

My experience as well, I took a small pick and opened it up just a tad. Before that, I was pushing so hard I was afraid of breaking off the spade itself.

Anyone want to buy my Kicker DSCs?(6x9 and 6.75 pairs) .....Save Crutchfield and myself the headache of a return

 

Weird - can't comment on the iPhone 8 but my 7 Plus is loud as hell over Bluetooth. Must be a settings issue somewhere?

 

that's what I thought too.. I guess I haven't listened over bluetooth much since I got this new phone - gonna try my old iphone and maybe my ipad - but what i can hear is that it sounds much better than before!

 

Check your media volume on your phone. Mines an android but it defaults to about mid scale.

 

Thanks, yeah that's the first thing i looked at - it was maxed out. i rebooted the phone and low and behold it's plenty loud now! so if anybody else has this issue try a reboot first before posting on tacomaworld

 

I have to ask users all the time if they've done this or not. Glad it was an easy fix@

Pulled trigger on some Infinity Reference speakers earlier today from Crutchfield. Probably need to order sound dampening material now.

 

Too lazy to filter through the thread, but does this setup work for 2nd gens? Looking to upgrade my speakers.

 

2nd gen trucks have 6.5" round speakers in the lower front doors and the rear doors. They also have a 1" tweeter in the upper front doors. Completely different setup, however, you can still upgrade the speakers. Not sure about the output of the stock head units so you may see only minimal improvement without adding an amp or better head unit.

 

Everything works except for the tweeters. I used the 6x9s and the 6.75s listed in this thread and both bolted right in with the adapters included from Crutchfield.

 

Crutchfield has a pretty good sale now on these front/rear speakers. Bought them a month ago but they were able to refund me the $45 price drop. Pretty happy, was not expecting that.

Also, for those on Spotify, I turned off Normalization in settings and it made a huge difference in volume.

Really interested in this audio mod. I have a 2nd gen (2014), and Crutchfield says the 6x9's listed do not fit. Looks like it's a depth issue. Do the Subaru tweeters fit the 2nd gen? All of the tweeters on Crutchfield show modifications to fit any of their tweeters into the factory location.

 

Don't know if the Subaru tweeters fit. But, the reason tweeters require custom fitting is because the wire for the door speaker attaches to the tweeter and runs through it too the woofer. So if you remove the factory tweeter you have to rewire/splice from the tweeter to the woofer.

Crutchfield tells you this if you click the info icon next to the warning.

 

Per Crutchfield, 6x9's don't fit the front doors on a 2nd gen. Anyone with a 2nd gen upgrade the front door speakers? If so, what did you use and what are the results?

 

6.5" with adapters.

Or Focal makes a custom kit for Toyota that is 6x9 with its own specialty bracket.
