Uh...my tailgate came with a lock from the factory...I believe that they all did.

 

Yes they do come with a handle lock, this is for those people that want a secondary lock so they do not have to wonder if they locked the factory one. Our is meant to install and forget.

Thankfully my Pop-n-Lock tailgate locks my factory tailgate lock every time as I lock my truck . Over 1.5yrs, and it still works. I guess it has paid for itself many times over.
This lock would be an additional insurance to protect your tailgate if anybody wants save your tailgate from determined thieves.

 

Met a few people that did not know they even had a key to the lock tailgate and assumed it locked when they locked the truck. The Pop-n-Lock looks like a good product but really having a second layer of protection is also important. All the news channels mention the hose clamp, but being a mechanically inclined person I would be able to remove it very quickly.

 

this is a great option for those of us without a tonneau or shell. what good is the handle lock when you can grab whatever is in the bed. i have never once locked my tailgate.

 

Got mine installed today.
Not difficult once you figure it out.

Part is high quality aluminum, precisely machined, with a quality gloss powercoat. My only criticism is the lock orientation points up, making it a water collection spot if you keep your tailgate down. I can’t think of a better way to engineer it, so I just loaded it up with fluid film to protect/lube it.

You have to remove the 4 screws holding the tailgate skin closest to the right corner. This will allow you to flex the cover up and slide the aluminum gaurd into place.

I also needed to remove the tailgate and slide the tailgate rotation bushing off the tailgate mount and trim the a little centering pin on the bushing. This is so the lock mechanism would function. Took 2 minutes once I figured it out. You can see the bushing with the pin trimmed in the first pic (has a nice hole in it).

Once installed the lock drops into place and you’re good... put it back together.

Simple 10 minute job.

There are 2nd Gen versions but they are different. This one is specifically for the 3rd Gen tailgates
