Looking for height!

I’m debating on which top cap to get. Mostly looking at 100R or 180. I plan on using it to go on quick camping trips. I wanted to put a platform in to store gear under it. But a 100 will not leave much headroom. I believe a 180 will be just enough. Dealer says 3-4 inches more. Can someone who has one get a measurement next time they are by their truck I’d appreciate it.

 

Measurement from WHERE TO WHERE-- be more specific as to what you want -- and I may be able to help you.
BTW I have no platform in my truckbed but I do have a Leer 180

 

Sorry from the floor of the inside of the bed to the roof of the top cap. Dealer said 3-4 more inches then 100R

Do you want it at the opening or at its highest point. Also I have the standard back glass in mine, which may make a diff if one has the optional back glass setup. here is a pic of mine

 

The highest point I guess. What I’m Looking to do is build a platform about 8” off the bed where you can lay 1x6 across. I’m hoping to be able to sit up in the back while on the platform. I thank you for checking for me.

 

if you plan on having a platform or drawer setup in the bed and then sleeping in the cap i would suggest going with the tall roof cap

i have a regular height cap with a small platform that i have spent many a nights in and while though sleeping isn't a problem, sitting up with your legs crossed sucks simply due to head space

i am only 5'7.... if you are like 6'+ ignore me all in all

 

Thanks for the info. The leer dealer said another $300-400 for mid rise cab. I guess I know which to order.

 

Here is the measurements I get with my Leer 180 Entry (rear opening) bet to bottom of the window frame is 36". Inside of topper in the middle of the bed to top of camper shell --measured at the center of the bed between the wheel wells --41.5".

Stay away from LEER. I have issues with mine. I have had it at my local dealer three times now. He said that I have to deal with their poor quality.

That’s exactly what I’m looking for, even length and color! Any idea what the height is to your bars? My garage has ten foot ceilings and the openings is actually cut for a nine foot opening. They reduced to seven tho. One door will be getting bigger very shortly!

They are not cheap but you can custom build them for your needs.

 

I was also looking at alu-cab. With racks it’s $3449. But it looks like tradesman has a lot more options. I’ll fill out an order an see what I get for a quote.

 

^^^ I have a cab-high ARE that came with my truck. The height under it is very restrictive; it's basically just a tall tonneau cover. So for the past 18 months I've been looking at taller shells, and have seen both AluCab and Access Tradesman in person. The AluCab is nicely done but ultimately not as configurable as the Tradesman. None of the aluminum caps have the fit and finish of a good carpeted fiberglass shell; they are fabricated and welded by human beings without much tooling, but they are strong and functional and quite light. If you're in California, Access is near Sacramento and open for visits ... I got a factory tour from the owner when I stopped by with no appointment since I happened to be in the area. Not yet a customer though, still undecided

 

I’m all about the tradesman, even though they’re more expensive! Trying to decide whether to do 26 inches or 30 inches above the bed, or somewhere in between.. I don’t need to be able to sit up in bed, although it would be nice, but I will probably build it close to the floor on one side..

 

I got a snugtop hi-liner and made a platform. With a thick paco pad, I can swing my legs off and almost sit upright on the platform. I can't imagine sleeping in a cab-high (with a platform). Mine was 3200 without the rack. I would take a hard look at AluCab if they're only a little more.

 

Sleep in the cab. Conserve that space in the back for your stuff.

 

Plus, you can carry your fresh-baked croissants and brioche!!! Imagine the smells...

I'm also interested in the Leer 180 for my Gen 3 Access Cab.
For those of you that have them, did you notice any reduction in fuel milage or any wind noise due to the shell being higher than the cab?
