7.62 x 39 Poll

I asked a question in the AR15 bs thread that got some traction so I wanted to poll the masses.

Quick facts: I've got the full set up for building an AR15. I've already built a carbine and a midlength. I also own an SKS but I'd like a more reliable platform for this caliber.

 

I know It's not on your list but I'd Get a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 over a ruger any day. You'll pay more for the CZ but you'll know where the money went. Deep bluing and nice walnut over plastic flimsy stocks. 5 round detachable magazine with a tunable set trigger.

 

What is you goal for this caliber. why are you so set on 7.62?

 

If you want 7.62x39 just get an AK-47. Sometimes the simplest solution is also the best. This is one of those cases. I've got high-end AK-47's and I've got cheap AK-47's and in the end they all do the same thing.

 

Yup cheap AK it does the job!

 

Fun, cheap shooting mainly. Possible truck guy/self defense. Id prefer reliability over accuracy.

 

This is the only way to go when going with 7.62x39.

 

If reliability is your main concern, AK is probably the way to go.

 

WASR-10

 

I have a wasr-10 and I can hit damn near anything I want to at about 125 or so yards never had a problem with it jamming or not wanting to work. Very reliable and easy to take down and clean. If I had a choice I would take an ak with me to fight over an m16

 

The best platform for this cartridge is an AK, pure and simple. I went down the Sig 556R rabbit hole a few years ago. It was an absolute piece of crap (not that I've had luck with any Sig manufactured after 2000). It was pretty, but it couldn't hold a candle to my SBR'd Draco and even my WASR's (fixed stock and underfolder) ran circles around it. After 3 trips back to Sig, I sold it back to the gun store. Never again.

If you haven't already decided, I would not suggest the Mini 30 if you want to use cheap ammo. I have to buy the hot brass loads for mine to even cycle. I was/am a little disappointed with it. I really want to like it because I think they are neat looking.

 

The 7.62x39 is one of my favorite cartridges. Ammo is cheap for what it is and easy to find. I have a WASR 10/63 and a CZ 527, a bolt action rifle designed to shoot the cheap surplus ammo. I’d grab the WASR over my AR 15 in an SD situation. I’m currently looking for another platform in 7.62x39 and really like the Faxon ARAK-21, but the cost is making me choke. Also thinking of the Galil Ace, but the price is steep. The Windham Weaponry 7.62×39 SRC is another one I am looking at for a lower cost. Lots of choices today in 7.62x39, but for cheap (a relative term at best), it’s hard to beat the good old AK-47. Lots of manufactures of AK’s out there, some good some not so good, so do your research. The WASR is a proven platform.

 

I have and love my Robeinson Arms XCR. It has an eleven inch barrel so it’s great suppressed. I shot two cases of wolf steel case through it without cleaning it. Towards the end it started to get sluggish. Half the rounds shot were suppressed.

 

I like my WASRs but I love my POLY TECH LEGEND

 

If I was buying a 7.62x39 gun, it would be a Bren 2 or VZ 58 that hasn't been touched by Century.

The only real AK I'd consider is a 2nd Gen Zastava PAP.
