That's a LOT of work and money, have you considered Reg Cab + 4.7 v8? Probably way easier since the 4Runner and Tacoma are so similar. Won't be as fast but still cewl

Yeah, but you can't get the 3rd gen in regular cab...

My idea specifically called for a 3rd gen...

Another idea I had was to put a 5.7L into a 5th gen Limited 2WD 4Runner (Yes, they did make them at one time, but not anymore)!

I don't own a 3rd gen. I have a 2nd gen that's paid for and I have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. I hope somebody does do this though!

Maybe it would be cheaper to make a 3rd gen regular cab than it would be to swap a V8 into one?

It would be a really cool build for sure! I’d love to see that happen.

    Some day I'll have this..
2nd gen Tacoma Reg cab with short bed conversion
    Front and rear glass fenders
    Sas with 40s
Then paint it pyrite mica or spruce mica
    :bananadance:
But I'm going to get a BMW m3 and take some serious welding classes before even attempting that. So for now my dream is still in dream stage

Someone a few months ago had a thread and was going to put a tundra v8 put into a 3rd gen to replace a hydro locked engine. The thread is now gone and I've been trying to figure out if he decided not to do it due to complications or just took down the thread. Maybe it will pop back up sometime with the swap done.

So basically, I'd start with this truck (have no idea why bumpers are body-color in the first picture and black in the second one):

And then I would turn it into this:

If I have my Tacoma long enough (or high enough miles) for the engine to go, I'd just drop a 4.0L in!

Though, would it be breaking an unwritten rules of Tacomas to just buy a TRD Sport, remove the 4WD/transfer case, and effectively make it a 2WD? It just seems like a cardinal sin to rip apart a 4x4 Taco and convert it to 2WD...

If you are looking for something in a higher trim, they are avaialable in 2wd. You can get a 2wd Sport in BBP if thats what you want.
Also, the sport would have Entune Premium with Navigation. If you sprung for JBL you may not even want to do the speakers.

Also, I'm not going to lie here. I own a 2nd Gen as you can probably tell by my signature and personal info. I've heard things about 3rd gens, but my philosophy is to remain neutral. Again, also not gonna lie...

The 3rd gens have been growing on me a bit. ;)
