Hey guys just wanted to put out there about this good buy I got from bestbuy on a compustar remote start kit for a 3rd gen SR5 without push button start. I found this kit when it was 220 bucks with geek squad install total. It's now 300 bucks on Bestbuy's website. You can either use the remote start it comes with or you can still use your factory key fob but your key fob can only start it from the 100 feet or so as you would to lock or unlock your peecup. And the compustar remote allows you to do it from 800 feet. Just hit the lock button on your factory key fod 3 times and about 3 seconds it will start. You have to find your best buy that has the tech to install it. Not all of them do. They go to special training to install the kits. Bryan in McKinney Texas was a cool dude. Anyways guys just thought I would spread this around in case anyone was interested for the winter season coming up. Only thing not photo was the tilt switch. It's a small package but that's included in the total deal.

Awesome, just made a thread about this yesterday asking for suggestions.

I am guessing your truck doesn't suffer from shutting down after you open the door? Just have to insert the key for it to continue working normally?

Not an issue. It is a 2006. Just insert key and roll out.

Hopefully it's the same with SR5's as the push to start Tacoma's are programmed to shut down when the door opens.

From what I have read here so far, there is no way around that with the Tacoma.

Correct it does not shut down when you open the door. Just start it, when your ready to go just unlock your door, hop in, insert key, turn the key to the on position and step on the brake peddle. That's it.

My bad. Didn't pay attention that yours has a normal key. You should be golden.

the only issue I see is the geek squad install. I think about 90-95% of those automotive installers are not that great. I know the local best buy that did the install for the son's car was not the same as the compustar licensed dealer/installer. wire harness fell out under the glove box area, didn't have all the parts (had to wait weeks for the install to actually happen), took more than 1 day to install.

I can see that. But with best buy geek squad you get lifetime warranty on the install, I would be more worried if I took it to a mom and pop audio place. It's always possible the guy was new or didn't know what he was doing. That's why I always ask the tech if he's done these before or if this is his 1st one. And it's only been a day that I had it installed so who knows if it's malfunctions down the road. But lifetime warranty from Best buy can't go wrong. But you never wanna get that rookie tech guy. I'm always worried when I get anything installed cuz you just don't know.
