tried, they suck. I have better luck on the facebook pages, and I've posted there already.

if only there was knowledge about coil packs (since more than subies have those) on this forum

from some random google search that pulled up a forum discussion

Basically From memory on your 8 pin igniter plug you will have two wires from the the ecu to igniter. Then you will have two wire output from igniter to coil packs. There is an earth i think as well ,but the white wire on about the middle igniter terminals is the tacho wire.

Of course on the 4pin coil plug setup you wont have the white wire on the igniter pack

The coil pack 4pin plug wires are black/white-main ign power.
the two yellow wires are from the igniter pack.and the white wire is for tacho output

so when you go from 4 pin to 3pin plug just move the tacho wire from the coil pack to the igniter plug.

I found all this out when i put my first vr4 magna into a 1988 magna elite back in 1995,and i wanted to get the digital dash working.the electronic dash was funky for its day and the bar graph scale went from orange to a red zone at 6000rpm.but nowdays its a bit tacky looking.

so a lot of that doesn't make sense to me. I'm just wanting a plug and play, no wiring..

look at the wires going to the coil and count how many wires there are that are on the pug-in, that should be your answer

so I mean, what's the difference? like if mine is a 3-pin, what does a 4-pin offer? or vise versa what is a 3-pin "missing"? Just not sure I understand how there can be different ones for the same engine...

well I assume there is a hot and a ground, there is most likely some other signal wire that tells it when to fire and a 4 pin has a tachometer signal sender wire I assume, but I'm no weather man

so maybe auto vs. manual?? if 4-pin is tachometer I'd be 4-pin..

I struggle with this stuff lol

I'm just shooting in the dark, but I do know that electrical stuff typically has a ground and a hot that are 2 separate wires, they could use the hot wire to just be on or off as a fire signal wire, but it could also be a separate wire for that similar to how the dome lights on our interior can be turned on, or they are on for a short period of time when the door is open (controlled by 2 different power souces [actually I think the door open is an extra ground that completes the circuit instead of an additional hot wire if memory serves correctly] but I'm no electric guru) and then all the other wires I assume would be sending some kind of signal out for diagnosis/reading abilities. almost everything I have said is speculation
