I just went with regular. Its just me, maybe a lady friend every now and then so the small should be fine for me. If i like it that much ill sell it and get a bigger one down the road.

Still think a good ground tent is the way to go unless you can afford a trailer and do it big.

I myself see no point in a pull behind trailer for offroading. Maybe for pulling my boat to the lake. I like the thought of not having to worry about finding a flat spot as well. We'll see though. I'll try her out for awhile and for the cross country trip. If i don't like it, i think i should be fine getting almost all my money back out of it at the price I paid for it. Just my thoughts though.

You'll need a flat/level spot to park the truck with a mounted tent. Most good expo trailers have jack stands at the corners to level them.

My dad used to say "That's why they make chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream....So everyone can have what they want". I can see the value in a RTT. I can see the value in an expo trailer. Both will have plus's and minus's. We'll be on a 3 week trip, travelling self contained and self sufficient for the entire trip, excluding gas. There will be 2 of us....So a lot of "stuff". With 3 people living out of my truck this past weekend, we were full up...Gear, food, etc...The bed was packed and the back seat was overflowing. And that was 2-1/2 days....and one trip into town to the store. I've got a little more "junk dependent" in my old age. While in the Army, I lived 21 days in the field with an 85lb pack and one re-supply via air drop. Now we will probably pack a trailer, stuff the truck, and bitch about what we have to leave behind.

Set up at camp like we always do then wheel with no extra weight on the truck. No shit bouncing around or getting covered in mud.

You should buy me one and I'll test my own claims.

I see that, but every trip i take isn't with a group of people with a base camp to come back to. For those kind of trips, nothing but a ground tent is perfectly fine.

When we're playing horse shoes I'll let you know.

Not interested in piling shit 4 or 5 layers deep in the bed and having to unload half my stuff to get to something else.

    Just gotta pack more efficiently.
I had less gear at Black Mountain than I did at LBL in March. Still thinning and adding things. Cool weather camping at both, but I learned what I really didn't use, and what I really do need.

Food, however, is something I think everyone goes overboard on!
