I was wanting to replace my old door panels because they keep trying to separate the main fiber board piece and the top trim piece. I have had to retighten the metal tabs a couple of times and some of them were missing when I got my truck. So I found this thread and thought I would try swapping my two piece door panels for newer one piece versions.
I went and got all of the parts needed but when I tried to test fit the plugs the bottom one worked but the top plug on the 2002 was way bigger. I did not get the other ends of the plugs from the 2002 hoping that because I already have power windows and door locks that the harness would work. I really didn't want to turn this into a wire chopping and splicing project.

I'm sure it doesn't help that I have an Xtra cab and the door panels and wiring harnesses came out of a double cab.

The plug that goes into the master switch? It would bigger since it has contacts for the rear window switches since you said you got them from a double cab. Try using your original wiring harness and switches.

I am referring to the plugs that terminate at the kick panel.

Same thing, it would have one larger tan connector with provisions for the rear doors. Specifically connector IH1 (on extended and single cabs) and connector IH3 (for double cabs). You can make the double cab wiring work by utilizing the correct connector and re-pinning it.

You can buy the IH1 connector plastic part from Toyota right?

Yup. 3rd gen 4Runners actually have the IH1 connectors in them I believe. I've taken a couple of them from the yard.

What's stopping you from using your original harness?

The new window and power door lock switches use different plugs. For now it looks like I will need to modify the passenger and driver side harnesses to make them work. And I might add power mirrors later down the road.

The 3rd Gen 4Runner has the correct IH3 plug on the driver side kick panel, but the passenger side is different. I can use the 4Runner and 02 double cab plugs to make a compatible harness for my 98 Tacoma.

You're right totally forgot about the switch differences. Power mirrors are stupid easy to wire up - you already have the harnesses too. It's a matter of about 5 or so wires - three for signal two for power/ground. Check the diagrams on the first page of this thread.

Awesome work here guys and lots of good info. I’ve tried to take the bits and parts I needed to use for my project.

I am in the process(hopefully) of building a stand alone power windows only wire harness. I have the donor parts from a 99 taco. Going into my 2001 quad cab.

I have a couple of questions.....

Does the master window switch have any kind of door lock safety interface? Or is it windows and door locks completely separate? I don’t want the power door locks. Just looking to adapt the wire harness for windows only function. And the tweeter wiring in the newer door panels.

The child safety lock simply cuts the ground for the passenger switch. The lock system is not connected to the window system.

You have a double cab with crank windows? That is extremely rare.

Quad cab with crank windows and zero wiring for the doors beyond the speaker feeds.

do you by any chance have a pin diagram wher I can rep in the old 99 door harness to fit the 2001 master switch?

any way to bypass or over ride the child safety??

There’s really no way to bypass it. Just don’t press it and you’ll never even know it’s there.

Can you rephrase the wiring question? Do you need 1999 diagrams or 2001 diagrams?

I have a 99 model door harness and I need to re-pin the connector to the new style 14 pin plug in the 01.

So your saying the window lock (child safety) won’t work without the lock actuators?

Sorry for the confusion.... allow me to elaborate a bit. My parts truck is a two door 99. My build truck is the 01 quad cab. I have to build the harness extensions to the rear doors. So I am looking to re-pin the plug accordingly to work with the larger 14 pin plug and feed the rear door switches.

No, I'm saying the locks have nothing to do with the window lock. All the window lock does is cut the ground for the passenger window switch on the driver's controls. It does nothing else.

Why are you re-pinning? Do you already have the connectors in your kick panel? If you do this won't work. Those connectors are not wired to the integration module. You would need to buy the correct integration module, and pull the dash off to see what wires you are missing.
