    I just don’t like the look on third gens, and I don’t want to depreciate the value of such a new truck. It’s a bigger deal on a 2016, have a lot more money to lose in resale

    If yours is a 3 pin, you need a 3 pin. What more explanation do you need? Some manufacture at some point decided to add more features and created a 4 pin. Yours doesn’t have that feature, so why keep questioning? As noted before, it can be used for the Tach. Yours obviously doesn’t need the 4th pin to read the tach, it is done some other method.
