Camping in the rain is no bueño on so many levels (but still better than not camping at all)...but this level sucks the most because you still have shit to do after it’s over.

    :annoyed:

...and I’ve still got to clean the mud from inside and outside of the truck.

Most definitely! Glad to have a weeks worth of good weather to dry it all out. Better than having to pitch the tent in the garage and hang all the shit from the rafters.

Stole the CVT RTT off my 5th Gen 4Runner New wipers :)
Hey guys, pretty new to the forum. Last weekend I took the '04 Xtracab my from parents' house to use as a daily driver (so I can stop putting on so many miles on my 4Runner). I have a CVT RTT and I wanna transfer it to my Tacoma for the winter using bed bars similar to the ones below:

My worries are that because the underside of the tent is so accessible, potential hooligans can easily steal the tent during the night or something. You guys have any solutions/ideas for securing the RTT brackets to help deter thieves? If there's a thread on this already...please send it my way  Thanks guys!

You can buy security nuts like tri-grooves to deter theft, but they are pretty pricey for what they are. I can't think of a single story of somebody getting their rtt stolen. It would be pretty easy to do, but most thieves are smash and grab opportunists, not the heist planners that would be needed to dismount and transport a 100+ pound roof tent.

If they really wanted it (security nuts or not) won't help, all they would need is a sawsall and gone in 60 seconds. Theives suck balls!
I haven't heard of one being stolen off a vehicle in this forum but unfortunately it's gonna happen. Did I say thieves suck? They need the shit kicked out of them.
    End of rant.

Thanks for the input - guess I'll mount it and hope for the best! I'll just be careful where I park in Portland...or next thing I know it'll be in one of the tent cities downtown

I got to hit a thief with my heavy ass U-lock off my bike one time in Seattle. That was kinda fun!

You should have hit the thief two or three times and it would have been fun. I hate thiefs! They just mess stuff up. I would rather give them something than to have them steal it from me.

Yeah, I got him on the side of the head. It was actually a little harder than I meant to. Pretty sure I would have killed the guy...

Well no need for that. Sounds like you knocked the rest of the common sense out of his head. I hope the thief learned a lesson.

I kinda feel bad. From the sounds of meth withdrawal symptomss, I'm pretty sure I'd risk a beating to get that feel-good again too...not excusing it, but jeez that stuff is evil.

Wife and I are possibly doing an 8-10 week road trip starting in Feb/March. Beginning to outfit the truck. Wife was skeptical at first on the RTT, used it for a week in Montana and Yellowstone and she loved it.20170629_130951 (1).jpg
