Hey guys , new to Tacomas. I bought a 2011 4Dr PreRunner a few weeks ago. Looking for good recommendations for wheel / tire install , and possibly 5100s. I'm in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem area. I have spoken with 4 wheel in Raleigh but they aren't very responsive...my friend who rec them said he had a completely different experience and they worth the trip to Raleigh.

I'd like to knock it out as I have some Falken 265/70/17s already waiting. Just looking for someone honest, with good advice, and not insanely expensive to help me out.

Thanks in advance for anything you all can offer.

I haven't been impressed with them with what I have seen seems hit or miss. I had to completely rebuild a buddy of mine diffs in his JK after they screwed the pooch on getting the set up right. Plus they overcharged on the install fees.

I would recc. Discount tire for installing wheels and tires, since being out of the auto tech business I have them do all my wheels and tires and everyone I have been to has been great service. As far as suspension install any reputable shop should be good all it is is swapping parts any wrench monkey should be able to do that.

4wheel has said call back in 10 min, then I call and no one answers. This has happened a few times. Several emails go unanswered. I've yet to hear back since Monday after two emails on a few questions. And yes, in their initial quote their fees and parts were not cheap.

Would you also feel comfortable going with discount tire for giving you good advice for picking the correct wheels? I'm far from knowledgable about all that stuff. I've done a lot of research on here and via google but still not entirely there knowledge wise.

SCS makes wheels specifically for our trucks. If you don't like what Discount tire has to offer as far as wheels go Tire rack has a good selection and when you look up wheels specifically for your vehicle through them they give you the correct offset and such. Wheels can be a tricky thing if the person behind the counter doesn't understand backspacing/offset and the manufacturer doesn't specifically list a wheel fitment for your truck or just gives them generic information.

Just for reference my wheels are a 17x8.5 with what is now a -12 offset (which tire rack sells). They were originally for a chevy truck so they had a +25 offset meaning the wheels were pulled more into the vehicle so I have a 1.5" spacer which makes essentially a -12 offset so they are pushed further away from the truck. Sorry this might of been a little confusing tried to simplify it as best as possible.

Basically I wanted to increase tire size and replace the stock wheels.

The stock tires now are 245/75/16
New tires (Falken AT3) are 265/70/17

From what I understand the stock offset is +30mm. I've been told by one tire place I need to stay in +12 to +25 offset range for proper fitment. Another place told me to look for 0 to -12?

At least I do know I am looking for 6 x 5.5 and 106 bore size . I've also been told to stick to 8" width. Just getting a lot of conflicting information it seems regarding offset/backspacing. The last thing I want to do is starting off my tacoma with the wrong wheel.

The second answer is correct if you look at the offsets from SCS and others for the wheels they are either 0 or up to -12. Because aftermarket wheels are wider than the stocks if you had a + offset the wheels and tires wouldn't clear suspension frame etc and when turning sharply it would hit those components.

Man my wheels are 8.5in wide when I go to 35s ill be kicking it up to a 9in wide wheel.

Here is a link to SCS the 17s have a -10 offset.

Thanks man! So in general, I need to narrow my search to negative offset for sure up to -12? I was planning to stick with 8" wide. Already bought the Falkens on the discount tire sale last month.

My first mods were bed liner, and husky mats. I think that was enough to hook me there.

A lot of people like those for the 33s. I am more partial to the little bit wider. But the 255/80s do work really well!!!
By the way you'll eventually like really soon want to go up in size from that size! I went 285/70R17 (33s) and already after abt a month am planning on going 35s when these tires wear out. But first I got to get the armor sorted out.

Good info - I read that was the largest tire I could go without lifting. I'd like to avoid cutting/rubbing. Maybe once I can get the tires/wheels on I can do the 5100 setup. Not looking for anything major.
